Indian Register Quality Systems (IRQS) is an Indian company that specializes in implementing quality management systems and training companies on these certifications. [1] IRQS is department functioning under the parent organisation Indian register of shipping (IRS) which was formed as a public limited company. [2]

History

Formed in 1993, IRQS has been providing quality certifications to companies in India with the help of their quality auditors. As on date, IRQS has centres in Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Kandla, Kochi, Pune, Bhopal, Vadodara, Tiruchirapalli, Visakhapatnam, Port Blair, Sri Lanka, Dubai, China, Singapore, Thailand, USA, UK, Greece and Korea.

The parent company of IRQS -Indian Register of Shipping was established as a public limited company in March 1975 and has been providing faithful and accurate classification and record of mercantile shipping. Apart from this, they have been able to establish standards and formulate rules for the construction and maintenance of ships, amphibious installation, marine equipment and industrial and general engineering equipment. They also undertake approval of designs, survey and to issue reports on land installations, machinery, materials and apparatus of all kinds.

Management

IRQS is a non-profit making organisation that utilizes funds generated from certification solely for the performance of their services. Profits go into further research and development of their certification processes. They are present across most cities in India and 9 other countries.

Achievements

IRQS is the first certification body in the Indian subcontinent to have received the Raad voor Accreditatie (RvA) accreditation in February 1993. Raad voor Accreditatie (RvA) is one of the oldest and reputed Dutch accreditation bodies in the world.

Few of the certifications IRQS provide are – ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000, ISO 28000, IATF 16949, SA 8000, OHSAS 18001, ISO 50001, ISO 30000, IMS Certification, ISO 29001 & ISO 9000. IRQS also has the provisional licence to provide a certification for FSSC 22000. [3]

IRQS also provides training to companies and its employees on different certifications. Some of the certifications that they provide training for are: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IATF 16949, ISO 28000, SA 8000, OHSAS 18001, ISO 50001, ISO 30000, ISO 22000, ISO 27001, IMS, ISO 9000 & ISO 29000.

ISO/TS 16949 is an ISO technical specification aimed at the development of a quality management system that provides for continual improvement, emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste in the automotive industry supply chain and production. It is based on the ISO 9001 standard and the first edition was published in June 1999 as ISO/TS 16949:1999.

BSI Group

BSI Group, also known as the British Standards Institution, is the national standards body of the United Kingdom. BSI produces technical standards on a wide range of products and services and also supplies certification and standards-related services to businesses.

TL 9000 is a quality management system standard designed by the QuEST Forum in 1998. It was created to focus on supply chain directives throughout the international telecommunications industry, including the USA. As with IATF 16949 for the automotive industry and AS9100 for the aerospace industry, TL 9000 specializes the generic ISO 9001 standard to meet the needs of one industrial sector, which for TL 9000 is the information and communications technology (ICT) sector—extending from service providers through ICT equipment manufacturers through the suppliers and contractors and subcontractors that provide electronic components, software components and services to those ICT equipment manufacturers.

Bureau of Indian Standards

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national Standards Body of India working under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. It is established by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 which came into effect on 23 December 1986. The Minister in charge of the Ministry or Department having administrative control of the BIS is the ex-officio President of the BIS.

Canadian Welding Bureau organization

The Canadian Welding Bureau is a certification and registration organization for companies involved in the welding of steel structures. Welders in Canada are required to be retested every two years by the Canadian Welding Bureau. The CWB Group was formed in 1947 to administer the then, new W47.1 welding standard for structural steel. The CWB has today expanded its scope well beyond the original structural steel roots and is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada as a Certification Body for the administration of CSA Standards including W47.1, W47.2, W55.3, W186, W178.1 and W48 to industries across Canada and internationally for:

Nigel Howard Croft was appointed as Chairman of ISO’s Technical Committee TC 176/SC 2 in February 2010, with overall responsibility for the ISO 9001 standard, used worldwide as a basis for certification of quality management systems, and the ISO 9004 guidelines standard aimed at improving organisational performance, among others. His third and final term as Chairman expired at the end of 2018. The Annex SL is a section of the ISO/IEC Directives part 1 that prescribes how ISO Management System Standard (MSS) standards should be written. The aim of Annex L is to enhance the consistency and alignment of MSS by providing a unifying and agreed-upon high level structure, identical core text and common terms and core definitions. The aim being that all ISO Type A MSS are aligned and the compatibility of these standards is enhanced.

Jey Oil Refining Company

The Oil Refinery Jey or the Oil Refining Company Jey has been established in 2003; with the investment of Oil Industry Personnel Pension Fund, with a nominal capacity of 1'800'000 tons as the largest producer of bituminous units in the Middle East. The company has two production and storage sites in Isfahan and Bandar Abbas and the head office in Tehran. Isfahan site has 4 separate units for the production of blown bitumen, with a nominal capacity of 40,000 barrels per day, a bottoms of 7100 barrels per day and emulsion bitumen with a capacity of 200 tons per day. This site is a separate unit for the production of polymeric and modified bitumen with a capacity of 100'000 tons annually. G-Petroleum Laboratory is the most well-equipped industrial bitumen laboratory in the country and region, and has been recognized as the first International Accreditation Lab with 17025 Standard Certificate since 2007; The laboratory as a supplier of testing the results for various types of bitumen and associates of different inspection companies, which are including of SGS and Atlas in the region and also in the Bandar Abbas import and export terminals for various delivery services, all were launched in 1395 (2015). The complex consists of 8 tank units with a capacity of 3000 tons, is designed, manufactured and operated on the basis of the international standards of ASTM, IPS, API and NFPA20.
