The International 3300 is a Type-C cowled bus chassis (conventional-style) manufactured by Navistar International, derived from the International DuraStar since 2004 for the United States, Canada, and Mexico. While most examples are produced as yellow school buses, variants of the 3300 are also produced for commercial applications; International also produces as cutaway-cab variant of the model line.
Developed as the successor to the International 3800 (the final model line of the International S series), the 3300 is a derivative of the International 4300 medium-duty truck (later the Durastar, the International MV since 2019); a single generation has been produced since 2004.
In 2001, International introduced the NGV (Next Generation Vehicle) line of trucks, with an all-new 4000-series medium-duty truck line. [1] For the 2005 model year, the 3300 was introduced as the replacement for the International 3800 (the final model of the long-running International S-Series). The 3300 shares its powertrain and forward body components with the 4300 medium-duty truck (the replacement for the 4900).
Though remaining under the same model nomenclature since 2004, the 3300 has followed the model development of the International DuraStar (today, the International MV).
As an effect of the alignment between industry chassis suppliers and school bus body manufacturers, production of the International 3300 has been more directly associated with IC Bus than its 3800 predecessor. From 2004 to 2008, the 3300 was also bodied by Blue Bird Corporation, who offered it as an additional model alongside its proprietary Blue Bird Vision conventional.
Since 2009, the 3300 chassis has been bodied by IC Bus exclusively in the United States and Canada. Navistar also manufactures the chassis for export, though body manufacturers outside North America do not produce school bus bodies for the chassis.

At the time of its introduction, the International 3300 was sold exclusively with Navistar-sourced diesel engines. For 2008 production, the VT365 and DT466 engines were replaced by the MaxxForce 7 and MaxxForce DT engines, respectively. Introduced as an option during 2013, Cummins ISB6.7 diesels became the standard diesel engine during 2015.
In 2015, the 3300 expanded to alternative-fuel powertrains, as Navistar introducing a PSI-supplied (Power Solutions International) propane-fuel engine; in 2017, the same engine became available fueled by gasoline. [2] In 2018, IC Bus introduced a prototype fully-electric bus based on a 3300 chassis, named chargE; [3] the production of the fully-electric vehicle is intended for 2020. [3] A new generation of the IC CE school bus was unveiled in July of 2023, based on the International MV. As of 2024 production, the MV-based bus is available exclusively in diesel and electric powertrain options, dropping the gasoline and propane variants.

From 2004 to 2015, IC Bus produced a Type-B low-profile version of the 3300 chassis, serving as the basis of the IC BE-Series bus. Produced primarily as a school bus and as its commercial-market derivatives, the BE was designed for operators transporting special-needs passengers. As an alternative to van-based buses, the BE was designed with a flat-floor interior, maximizing the available space for wheelchair passengers.
From 2004 to 2015, the cutaway-cab variant of the International DuraStar was produced for bus use, designated the International 3200, replacing the previous-generation 3400 based on the S-Series cab. Alongside second-party manufacturers, in 2006, IC began production of several types of commercial bodies for the 3200 chassis, including transit shuttle buses, tour buses, limo buses, and low-floor transit buses.
Following the 2010 introduction of the IC AE/AC-Series (based on the smaller International TerraStar), many cutaway International buses adopted IC grille badging, though the 3200 itself was never marketed with a school bus body.

Established in 2002 by Navistar through the reorganization of subsidiary manufacturer American Transportation Corporation (AmTran), IC currently produces school buses and commercial-use buses for multiple applications.
The Navistar VT engine family is a line of diesel engines that was produced by International Truck and Engine from 2003 to 2016. Developed as the replacement for the T444E V8, the VT V6 and V8 diesels were the smallest diesel engines used in Navistar vehicles, slotted below the DT inline-6 engine family. Sharing many applications with the DT466 inline-6, the VT engines were used in medium-duty trucks and school bus chassis, competing against the Cummins B-series and the Mercedes-Benz MBE900 diesel engines. In 2007, both the VT and DT engines were rebranded under the MaxxForce brand name, with model designations related to their displacement.
American Transportation Corporation was an American manufacturer of school bus bodies. Tracing its roots to Ward Body Works, AmTran was formed in 1980 following the 1979 bankruptcy of Ward to continue bus production. In 1991, the company became a subsidiary of Navistar International, leading to a series of acquisitions of school bus body manufacturers by chassis suppliers during the 1990s.
The Chevrolet and GMC B series was a series of cowled chassis that were produced by General Motors. Produced across three generations from 1966 to 2003, the model line was a variant of medium-duty trucks marketed under the Chevrolet and GMC nameplates. Initially derived from the medium-duty C/K series, later examples were derived from the GMT530 architecture.
The Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick are a range of medium-duty trucks that were produced by the Chevrolet and GMC divisions of General Motors from 1980 to 2009. The Wayne Lifestar is a product line of buses that was manufactured and marketed by Wayne Corporation and its successor company Wayne Wheeled Vehicles from 1986 to 1995. Produced nearly exclusively in a school bus configuration, the Wayne Lifestar used a transit-style body configuration with a front-engine chassis. Marking the return to transit-style production, the Lifestar adopted the single-piece body stampings of the Wayne Lifeguard in its construction.
The Freightliner FS-65 is a cowled school bus chassis that was manufactured by Freightliner from 1997 to 2008. Derived from the Freightliner FL-Series medium-duty trucks, the FS-65 was produced primarily for school bus applications, though commercial-use buses and cutaway-cab buses were also built using the FS-65 chassis.
The International TerraStar is a medium-duty truck that was manufactured by International Trucks from 2010 to 2015. The smallest conventional-cab truck ever produced by International, the TerraStar competed against chassis-cab vehicles derived from large pickup trucks along with the smallest versions of the Freightliner M2 and Hino 600. Though never officially designated by the company as a replacement for the 2006-2009 CityStar LCF COE, the TerraStar is of similar dimensions and GVWR.
The Freightliner Business Class M2 is a model range of medium-duty trucks produced by Freightliner since the 2003 model year. The first generation of the Business Class developed entirely by Freightliner, the M2 replaced the FL-Series introduced in 1991. Serving as a Class 5-Class 8 product range, the M2 competes primarily against the International MV and the Ford F-650/F-750 Super Duty.
