This is a record of Israel at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics . Israel has won three medals at the World Championships of Athletics.

Israeli Aleksandr Averbukh, won the bronze in 1999, [1] [2] and the silver in 2001. [3] [4]

Their third medal came in 2015. Former Ukrainian Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko made a big improvement to her own National Record of her new country Israel with a 14.78. Her lead lasted through two jumpers before Ibargüen took the lead with her second round 14.80. Knyazyeva-Minenko's medal was the first World Championship medal for an Israeli woman. [5]

On 18 July 2022, Kenyan-born Israeli runner Lonah Chemtai Salpeter won the bronze medal in the women's marathon to give Israel its fourth medal. [6] [7]

At the European Athletics Championships, Chemtai took victory in the 10,000 metres in 2018 and earned bronze in 2022. She won the 2020 Tokyo Marathon, finished second at the 2022 New York City Marathon and third at the 2023 Boston Marathon.

Israel competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo with its largest contingent to date − a delegation of 90 athletes, 55 men and 35 women, who competed in 15 different sports. The Games were also Israel's most successful to date, winning four medals, including two gold. The women's marathon was one of the road events at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. Due to the heat in Doha, the race was scheduled to begin at 23:59 on 27 September 2019, which made it the first midnight marathon in the history of the World Championships. Even with the unusual timing, the temperature was above 30 °C (86 °F) and the humidity over 70 per cent, making conditions difficult for running. Only 40 of the 68 entrants finished the race, which was won by Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya in 2:32.43; the slowest winning time at the World Championships. Bahrain's Rose Chelimo was second in 2:33.46, with Helalia Johannes of Namibia third in 2:34.15.

The 2020 Tokyo Marathon was the fourteenth edition of the annual marathon race in Tokyo, and was held on Sunday, 1 March. A World Athletics Platinum Label Road Race, it was the first World Marathon Majors event held that year. Last year's winner, Birhanu Legese, successfully defended his title by winning with a time of 2:04:15, while Lonah Chemtai Salpeter set a new course record as well as a new Israeli national record by winning with a time of 2:17:45. The men's wheelchair race was won by Japanese racer Tomoki Suzuki, and the women's wheelchair race was won by Japanese racer Tsubasa Kina.

The 2022 New York City Marathon, the 51st running of that city's premier long-distance race, was held on November 6, 2022. The race followed its traditional route, which passes through all five boroughs of New York City. 47,839 people finished the event. It was the warmest New York City Marathon on record, with peak temperatures of 75 °F (24 °C).
