World Championships in Athletics appearances (overview)

Algeria has competed at the IAAF World Athletics Championships on eighteen occasions, sending a delegation to every event since the 1983 edition. Its competing country code is ALG. The country has won six gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals at the competition. All eleven of its medals come from six athletes in distance track events. Noureddine Morceli won the men's 1500 metres titles in 1991, 1993 and 1995, while his female counterpart Hassiba Boulmerka won two golds and one bronze. Azzedine Brahmi won 1991 bronze in the men's 3000 metres steeplechase. Djabir Saïd-Guerni won the men's 800 metres bronze in 1999 before winning a gold medal in that event in 2003. In 2019, Taoufik Makhloufi won the silver in the men's 1500 metres, and in the subsequent edition, Djamel Sedjati won the silver in the men's 800 meters. [1]

The best rank in the medals table achieved by Algeria in the history of its participation is seventh, achieved in 1991 with two golds and a bronze.

Combined events at the Summer Olympics have been contested in several formats at the multi-sport event. There are two combined track and field events in the current Olympic athletics programme: a men's decathlon and a women's heptathlon.

The 1988 Arab Junior Athletics Championships was the third edition of the international athletics competition for under-20 athletes from Arab countries. It took place in Damascus, Syria – the first time the event was staged in West Asia. A total of 41 athletics events were contested, 23 for men and 18 for women. Morocco, a regional power in the sport, did not send a team. Syria entered for the first time.

Mo Farah won the first medal for the host nation, also winning the first gold medal of the Championships.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 2019 World Athletics Championships</span> Sporting event delegation

Great Britain and Northern Ireland competed at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, from 27 September–6 October 2019. The nation won five medals at the championships – two gold medals, and three silvers. Dina Asher-Smith became the first British person to win three medals at a single championships, winning the women's 200 metres, taking silver in the Women's 100 metres, then getting another silver in the women's 4 × 100 metres relay. Asher-Smith broke the British records in both the 100 m and 200 m. She was Britain's first female sprint champion. Katarina Johnson-Thompson was the only other Briton to win an individual medal, taking the heptathlon gold medal with a British record score. The British men's 4 × 100 metres relay quarter ran a European record of 37.36 seconds to take a silver medal. The women's 4 × 400 metres relay team was briefly upgraded to the bronze medal, but the original medallists Jamaica were reinstated on appeal. Great Britain won the lowest number of medals since its performance at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics.

The United States competed at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki, Finland, from August 7 to 14, 1983. The championships were the first to feature both men and women's events and a full complement of events. The USA entered sixty-six men and thirty five women. The USA took home eight gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals. Ranking second in the medal table.

The 2019 IAAF Combined Events Challenge was the 22nd edition of the global series of combined track and field event meetings organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). It featured decathlon for men and heptathlon for women. A total of eleven meetings were in the 2019 series, starting at the Multistars meet on 27 April and finishing at the 2019 World Athletics Championships on 4 October.
