John George Ajaka (born 13 January 1956),an Australian politician,was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 2007 to 2021,representing the Liberal Party and he is the first Liberal Party Lebanese Australian member of an Australian parliament. [1] Ajaka has previously served as the Minister for the Illawarra during 2013 and 2015 in the O'Farrell and first Baird government. [2] He was also the President of the New South Wales Legislative Council until March 2021.
Until 23 January 2017,Ajaka was New South Wales Minister for Ageing from April 2014,the Minister for Disability Services from August 2013,and the Minister for Multiculturalism from April 2015 in the second Baird government. [3] [4] [5] Ajaka is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since 2007,representing the Liberal Party and he is the first Liberal Party Lebanese Australian member of an Australian parliament. Ajaka was born in Bulli,New South Wales,to migrant parents from Lebanon. [6] He was schooled at St Joseph's Primary School and Marist College Kogarah where he served in the Army Cadets,graduating as the second-highest-ranking officer in his group,and served briefly in the Australian Army Reserve. He subsequently studied law and opened his own practice in Rockdale. [7] He was later elected as a City of Rockdale councillor,serving in that role until his election to parliament. [1]
Ajaka was elected to the Legislative Council at the 2007 state election. [2] [8] He made his inaugural speech to the Legislative Council on 9 May 2007,in which he called for greater acceptance of migrants within Australian society and declared his intention to oppose racial prejudice and injustice in his role as an MP. [9] He also strongly criticised the police practice of referring to the ethnic backgrounds of criminals,contravening his own party's policy on the matter. [10]
Ajaka was appointed as the Minister for the Illawarra and the Minister for Disability Services on 2 August 2013;and became of member of the O'Farrell cabinet. [11] [12] Due to the resignation of Barry O'Farrell as Premier, [13] and the subsequent ministerial reshuffle by Mike Baird,the new Liberal Leader, [5] in April 2014 in addition to his existing responsibilities as a minister,Ajaka was appointed as the Minister for Ageing. Following the 2015 state election,Ajaka was appointed as the Minister for Ageing,the Minister for Disability Services and the Minister for Multiculturalism,and the Leader of the Liberal Party in the Legislative Council in the new second Baird government. [3]
In February 2017,he was elected by the Legislative Council to be the President of the New South Wales Legislative Council. He was re-elected during the opening of the 57th Parliament on 7 May 2019. In February 2021,he announced his intention to retire from the NSW Parliament which took effect on 31 March 2021. [15] He resigned as President of the Legislative Council on 24 March 2021. [16]
Barry Robert O'Farrell is a former Australian politician who has been Australia's High Commissioner to India since May 2020. O'Farrell was the 43rd Premier of New South Wales and Minister for Western Sydney from 2011 to 2014. He was the Leader of the New South Wales Liberal Party from 2007 to 2014,and was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1995 to 2015,representing Northcott until 1999 and representing Ku-ring-gai on the Upper North Shore of Sydney from 1999 to 2015. He is currently President and Independent Board Chair of Diabetes Australia,Chair of the Wests Tigers Rugby League Football Club and CEO of Racing Australia Ltd.
Francesco Ernest "Frank" Sartor AO a former Australian politician,was New South Wales Minister for Climate Change and the Environment and Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer) between 2009 and 2011. He was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Rockdale for the Labor Party between 2003 and 2011. Sartor has previously been Minister for Planning,Redfern Waterloo and the Arts,and Minister for Water and Utilities in the Iemma and Carr governments. Before being elected to the New South Wales Parliament,Sartor is the second longest-serving Lord Mayor of Sydney after Clover Moore,having held the post for nearly 12 years from September 1991 to March 2003. Sartor retired from politics at the 2011 state election.

Gladys Berejiklian is an Australian former politician who served as the 45th Premier of New South Wales and the leader of the New South Wales Liberal Party from 2017 to 2021. She assumed office on 23 January 2017 after the resignation of Mike Baird. She previously served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 2003 to 2021,representing the seat of Willoughby.
Matthew Ryan Mason-Cox is an Australian politician serving as President of the New South Wales Legislative Council since 4 May 2021. He is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council for the Liberal Party since 28 September 2006,with a short two-week stint as an Independent in May 2021. Mason-Cox was the Minister for Fair Trading between May 2014 and April 2015 in the first Baird ministry and served as Leader of the Liberal Party of Australia in the Legislative Council during 2014 and 2015.

Dominello is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly,representing the electorate of Ryde for the Liberal Party since 2008.
Stuart Laurence Ayres,is an Australian politician who has served as the Deputy Leader of the New South Wales Liberal Party in the Perrottet ministry since October 2021. Ayres is also the New South Wales Minister for Enterprise,Investment and Trade,the Minister for Tourism and Sport,and the Minister for Western Sydney since December 2021. Ayres is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly since 19 June 2010,representing the electorate of Penrith as a member of the Liberal Party.

He has served as the New South Wales Attorney General since January 2017 in the second Berejiklian ministry since April 2019,and in the first arrangement of the Perrottet ministry. Speakman is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Cronulla for the Liberal Party since 2011.
A general election for the 56th Parliament of New South Wales (NSW) was held on Saturday 28 March 2015. Members were elected to all 93 seats in the Legislative Assembly using optional preferential voting. Members were also elected to 21 of the 42 seats in the Legislative Council using optional preferential proportional representation voting. The election was conducted by the New South Wales Electoral Commission.
In New South Wales,regional ministers have been appointed since 1995 on a part-time basis as part of the Government of New South Wales. Each minister has other departmental responsibilities,as well as specific responsibilities for one of the regions of New South Wales. The ministries with regional responsibilities first appeared in 2000 during the Carr Labor Government with a position looking after the Central Coast,this would later be expanded by the Iemma Labor Government from 2005 and O'Farrell Coalition Government in 2011 to five different positions including Western Sydney.
