Jos South

Jos South is a Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria. It houses the Plateau State new Government house which includes the Office of the Executive Governor and other government house administrative offices and departments including Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency in Rayfield and can thus be described as the de facto capital of Plateau state. Its headquarters is located in Bukuru town on 9°48′00″N8°52′00″E / 9.80000°N 8.86667°E / 9.80000; 8.86667 . [1]

It has an area of 510 km2 and a population of 306,716 at the 2006 census. It is the second most populated Local Government Area in the state after Jos-North.

Gyang Dalyop Dantong was a Nigerian senator who represented the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State. He became a member of the Nigerian Senate in 2007. He previously served as a Honourable Member in the House of Representatives representing Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency from 2003 to 2007. Dantong died on 8 July 2012 when attending a mass funeral of people who had been killed by Fulani herdsmen in Matse area of Riyom local government in Plateau State. The people at the funeral were attacked by gunmen thought to also be Fulani.

The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Plateau State will be held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, will also be held on the same date while state elections will be held two weeks afterward on 11 March.
