In 2016, the station applied for a construction permit to move its transmitter to a neighborhood on the north side of St. James near a church. The construction permit would lower the power of the station to 100 watts and decrease the height above average terrain to 36 feet (11 m). KSJM is owned by non-profit Christian Ministries of the Valley, Inc, based out of Weslaco, Texas. The company also owns television stations.
