Kaiten Books LLC is an independent American language localization and publishing company located in Southern California. The company focuses on the translation of Japanese Manga into English and publishes a wide variety of genres. It has licensed titles from Japanese publishers such as Overlap, Micro Magazine, and Futabasha.

History

Kaiten Books was founded in 2019 and became active in March 2020. [1] The company's first announced partnership was with the Japanese publisher Overlap [2] which included the debut manga licenses Loner Life in Another World and Shed that Skin, Ryugasaki-san! [3]

In June 2020, Kaiten Books founders made an appearance on the Manga Monthly podcast, hosted by New York Public Librarian Joe Pascullo, and discussed their latest license acquisitions and motivations behind starting the company. [4]

Shortly after, Kaiten Books announced a partnership with Futabasha in July 2020 with the licensing of the manga My Dad's the Queen of All VTubers?! [5] and Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru!, [6] as well as a partnership with Micro Magazine after announcing it had acquired the licenses for The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting and Gacha Girls Corps in December 2020. [7]

In March 2021, Kaiten Books formally announced it would be expanding its physical distribution capabilities through a partnership with Pathway Book Service to make its releases more widely available in traditional brick-and-mortar storefronts and internationally. [8]

Later in December 2021 Kaiten Books announced a partnership with the digital manga subscription service Azuki as the exclusive streaming home for select titles. [9]

Kaiten Books announced in its May 2022 press release that it would be attending Anime Expo 2022, marking the company's first convention appearance. [10]

Nozomu Tamaki is a Japanese manga artist. His most notable work, Dance in the Vampire Bund, was licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment and adapted into a 12-episode anime series by the studio Shaft.

Itsuro Kawasaki is a Japanese animator, storyboard artist, screenwriter, and director from Tokyo.

<i>Orange</i> (manga) Japanese manga series

Orange is a Japanese romance manga series written and illustrated by Ichigo Takano, aimed at the shōjo and seinen demographics. It was first serialized in 2012 in Bessatsu Margaret manga magazine and later in Monthly Action. It has been compiled into 7 volumes as of April, 2022. Its chapters are published online in English by Crunchyroll and in print by Seven Seas Entertainment. It is also published in France by Akata, in Poland by Waneko, and in Spain by Ediciones Tomodomo. A live action film adaptation of the same name was released on December 12, 2015. An anime television adaptation started to air in July 2016. A spin-off to the manga began serialization on March 25, 2016, in the Monthly Action magazine published by Futabasha. An anime theatrical film, titled Orange: Future, premiered in Japan on November 18, 2016.

Andrew Hodgson, also known by the online alias Reading Steiner, is a British professional Japanese-to-English translator often working with J-Novel Club and PQube Games. His output encompasses numerous forms of Japanese media, including light novels, manga, video games, and art books. Some of his most notable works include Steins;Gate, In Another World With My Smartphone, Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, Infinite Dendrogram, and Rance X: Showdown.

<i>Loner Life in Another World</i> Japanese light novel series

Loner Life in Another World is a Japanese light novel series written by Shoji Goji. The series originated on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in October 2016, before being published in print with illustrations by Booota and Saku Enokimaru by Overlap beginning in January 2018. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Bibi, began serialization on the Comic Gardo website in January 2019.

Hikaru in the Light! is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mai Matsuda. It was serialized in Futabasha's seinen manga magazine Manga Action from May 2021 to August 2022, with its chapters collected in four tankōbon volumes.
