Kaleva is an eastern part of the city of Tampere, Finland, located south of the Kauppi district. It is part of larger Sampo district. The population of Kaleva is approximately 10,000 (2005).
The most notable landmark is the Kaleva Church built between 1959 and 1966, and located in the Liisankallio district.
Kaleva has many educational institutions, the folk high school Sampola and vocational school of economics, two high schools (lukio); Kalevan lukio and Sammon keskuslukio, and two comprehensive schools. It's also the home of the biggest swimming hall in Tampere.
Most locals are students from Tampere University or pensioners. In 2007 Kaleva topped being the most poor part of the town.[ permanent dead link ]
One of the notable residents of Kaleva is Sanna Marin, the former Prime Minister of Finland. [1]

Messukylä is a former municipality of Finland which was annexed by the city of Tampere in 1947. The medieval stone church in Messukylä is the oldest building in Tampere. During the Civil War (1918), Messukylä was the scene of heavy battles around both the medieval and new churches.
The Battle of Tampere was a 1918 Finnish Civil War battle, fought in Tampere, Finland from 15 March to 6 April between the Whites and the Reds. It is the most famous and the heaviest of all the Finnish Civil War battles. Today it is particularly remembered for its bloody aftermath as the Whites executed hundreds of capitulated Reds and took 11,000 prisoners who ended up in the Kalevankangas camp.

Sanna Mirella Marin is a Finnish former politician who served as prime minister of Finland from 2019 to 2023 and as the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP) from 2020 to 2023. She was a Member of Parliament from 2015 to 2023. She was re-elected as member of parliament in April 2023 but resigned to become a strategic adviser on political leaders' reform programmes in the Tony Blair Institute in September 2023.
Teiskontie is a street and highway in Tampere, Finland. As its name implies, it runs from the center of Tampere towards Teisko, a former municipality connected to Tampere in 1972. To the east of the highway junction of Hervanta, it is part of Highway 12 leading in the direction of Lahti and Kouvola. On the east side of Lake Alasjärvi, Teiskontie has a connection to Highway 9 (E63) leading in the direction of Jyväskylä and Kuopio.
Kalevanrinne is a district of Tampere, Finland. It is located in the Sampo area between the districts of Kaleva and Järvensivu, bordering Liisankallio and Kalevanharju in the west, Hakametsä and Vuohenoja in the east. The city plan of Kalevanrinne was confirmed in 1951 and supplemented in 1955 and 1960. Kalevanrinne has a hypermarket Prisma, a pet store Musti ja Mirri and an electronics store Gigantti. There are also 13 planned apartment buildings in the area, which means that the Kalevanrinne residential area, located between Kalevantie and Sammonkatu, is planned to have about 1,360 inhabitants. The planned area is about 3,5 hectares in size.
Liisankallio is a district of Tampere, Finland. The district, formerly known as Tammelan vainio, is located east of the Tammela and Tulli districts. To the north is the Petsamo district, to the east are Kaleva and Kalevanrinne, to the south is Kalevanharju. When we often talk about Kaleva, we mean a larger entity formed by Liisankallio, Kaleva and Kalevanrinne.
Tesomajärvi is a district in the southwestern part of Tampere, Finland, belonging part of Tesoma's planning area. 1,280 people lived on Tesomajärvi in 2015. Although the population of Tampere is growing, the population of Tesomajärvi has clearly decreased from about 1,500 in 1996. The districts surrounding Tesomajärvi from the south clockwise are Rahola and Ristimäki, Kalkku, Ikuri, Haukiluoma, Lamminpää, Tohloppi and again Ristimäki. Tesomajärvi is one of Tampere's regional centers. In addition to Ristimäki, most of the commercial and public services in the Tesoma area are located in the district. In addition, the district includes the Tesoma's indoor swimming pool and ice rink.
Tuomiokirkonkatu is a north–south street in the center of Tampere, Finland, which runs through the districts of Jussinkylä and Kyttälä. The street is about a kilometer long. In the north it ends at Lapintie, in the south Vuolteenkatu. In Kyttälä, part of Tuomiokirkonkatu has been turned into a pedestrian street. In the future, the pedestrian section will be expanded so that it will eventually extend south from Kyttälänkatu to Suvantokatu and the Sori Square.
Kissanmaa is a district in the eastern part of Tampere, Finland, along the Teiskontie street. It belongs to the subdivision of Sampo, and it is located 3 kilometers from the city center. Kissanmaa is surrounded by Ruotula and Uusikylä in the east, Hakametsä in the south, Kaleva in the west and Kauppi in the north. Most of the residential houses are detached houses, but there are also apartment buildings of different sizes in the western part of the area. The area is best known for Finland's first ice rink, Tampere Ice Stadium, and training hall, completed in 1965. The first town plan of Kissanmaa was established in 1958.
Sarankulma is a district located in the southern part of Tampere, Finland. It borders Härmälä in the north, Peltolammi in the east and the Pirkkala's municipal border in the west. There is industry in the area and former editorial office of Aamulehti was previously located in Sarankulma. The Pärrinkoski's nature conservation area is located on the southern border of Sarankulma.
Pyynikinrinne is a district of Tampere, Finland. It is located west of the city center. Pyynikinrinne is bordered on the south by the Pyynikki Esker nature reserve, on the north by Pirkankatu and on the east by Mariankatu. The western boundary of the district is the former border between Tampere and Pohjois-Pirkkala municipalities. The neighboring parts of the city are Pyynikki, Ylä-Pispala, Amuri, partly Särkänniemi and Kaakinmaa.
Kalevanharju is a district of Tampere, Finland. It is bordered on the north by Liisankallio, on the northeast by Kaleva, on the east by Kalevanrinne, on the south by Hatanpää, on the west by Ratina and on the northwest by Tulli. The Central Campus of the Tampere University, the Kalevankangas Cemetery and the Tampere Adult Education Center are located in Kalevanharju.
Petsamo is a district of Tampere, Finland. The district is named after Pechenga, which Finland acquired in the Treaty of Tartu. At the same time as Soviet Russia ceded Petsamo to Finland in 1920, some large Tamperean industrial plants began to build a residential area for their working population on the northeast corner of the city. When the area seemed to be far from the center, the informal name of the district was born as a result of the image.
The Kyiv Park is a public park located in the Kaleva district, city of Tampere, Finland.
Sorsapuisto is a recreational area of 4.2 hectares in Tulli, Tampere, Finland, completed in the 1930s. In 1990 the Tampere Hall was built in the south corner of the park and the whole park was renovated. From 1964 to 1972 the site of the Tampere Hall hosted the Tampere zoo featuring the lions Tam and Pere.
