Kassena-Nankana District is a former district that was located in Upper East Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988. However on 29 February 2008, it was split off into two new districts: Kassena-Nankana East District (which it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 28 June 2012; capital: Navrongo) and Kassena-Nankana West District (capital: Paga). The district assembly was located in the western part of Upper East Region and had Navrongo as its capital town.

West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly District in North East, Ghana

West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly is one of the six districts in North East Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as West Mamprusi District, which was created from the former Mamprusi District Council, until the western part of the district was split off on 28 June 2012 to create Mamprugu-Moagduri District; thus the remaining part has been retained as West Mamprusi District. However on 15 March 2018, it was elevated to municipal district assembly status to become West Mamprusi Municipal District. Joseph Kofi Kowe Adda was a Member of Parliament in Ghana and also the Minister for Aviation in the New Patriotic Party government under President Akufo-Addo until January 2021. He is also a Financial Economist and a Management Consultant. He is the immediate past Minister for Aviation.

The Kassena people are an ethnic group located along the northern Ghana and Burkina Faso border. They speak the Kasem language. Their chief lives in the town of Tiébélé. The kasenna are closely related to the people of Nankanni and were brought together to form the Kassena-Nankana administrative district in 1936. As of 2008 the (Kassena-Nankana) area comprises two districts: Kassena Nankana West and Kassena Nankana East.

Tono Dam is one of the largest agricultural dams in western Africa, located in Kassena-Nankana District of Upper East Region, northern Ghana. It is important in the livelihoods of local farmers and forms a lake with a notable bird habitat. The dam was built in the late 70's and early 80's by Taysec, a British engineering company. It is managed by the Irrigation Company of Upper Region. The 2 km long dam irrigates some 2,490 hectares of land.

St. John Bosco's College of Education is a teacher education college in Navrongo set up in 1946 with 10 male students. The college became a public tertiary institution, established by the Colleges of Education Act (847) 2012, accredited by National Accreditation Board Ghana, and mandated to train standard teachers for Pre-tertiary Education in Ghana. The college has demonstrated excellence in Teacher Education in Ghana for over 60 years, churning out great personalities for the country. The college is specialised in training teachers in the broad areas of Social, Agriculture and Pure Sciences, as well as Computing, Mathematics, Technical and Vocational disciplines. It is one of the about 40 public colleges of education in Ghana. The college participated in the DFID-funded T-TEL programme.

Lawrence Rosario Abavana

Lawrence Rosario Abavana was a Ghanaian politician and teacher by profession. He served in various ministerial portfolios in the first republic and also served as a member of the council of state in the third republic. He was a member of the Convention People's Party (CPP).
