Katalin Gennburg (born 5 March 1984) is a German politician of The Left who has been a member of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin since 2016.
Gennburg attended the Lise-Meitner-Gymnasium in Falkensee and earned her Abitur in 2004. She then studied at the Technical University of Berlin, graduating with a bachelor's degree in culture and technology in 2010, and later a master's degree in historical urbanism in 2014 [1] with her thesis The materiality of the commuter belt: On the privatization of land in East Germany since 1990 – the Berlin suburb of Falkensee and the construction of the Herlitz works. [2] She has a daughter and lives in Alt-Treptow. [2] [3]
From 2005 to 2007, Gennburg was a student assistant to member of the Bundestag Jan Korte. During 2007 she did freelance work and public relations work for the European Left in the European Parliament. She then worked as a women's representative in the humanities faculty at the TU Berlin until 2010, before becoming a tutor at the Department of Urban and Regional Sociology. From 2014 to 2016, she was a research assistant for Berlin Senator for Urban Development Katrin Lompscher. [1]
Gennburg joined the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) in 2002. [1] In 2003, she was elected to the city council of Falkensee, serving until 2005. She was the youngest member of the council and was responsible for developing an urban development plan for the area, which later spurred her to study historical urbanism. [2] From 2007 to 2008, she was co-spokeswoman for The Left's youth branch, Left Youth Solid, along with others including Lena Kreck. [3]
She was elected to the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin in the 2016 Berlin state election, winning the direct constituency of Treptow-Köpenick 1 with 26.4% of votes. [4] She became The Left's spokeswoman for urban development. She was re-elected in the 2021 Berlin state election, again winning her constituency with 26.2% of votes. [5]
After the 2021 election, Gennburg campaigned for Left members to vote "no" to the proposed coalition agreement with the SPD and Greens. She cited concerns about housing and development policy, particularly the shift of the urban development portfolio from The Left to the SPD. She suggested that the SPD and Greens could not be trusted to protect tenants' interests, and would take a pro-business approach to housing construction and the result of the Deutsche Wohnen & Co. enteignen referendum. She also criticised her party for being insufficiently assertive in the previous coalition and ceding too much ground to the more moderate parties. [6] The coalition agreement was ultimately passed with 75% approval. [7]
The 2001 Berlin state election was held on 21 October 2001 to elect the members of the 15th Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin. Prior to the election, Mayor Klaus Wowereit had led a minority government of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and The Greens since June, which had replaced a coalition between the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and SPD which collapsed in June. The SPD–Green government made gains, but remained short of a majority. The SPD first sought to form a traffic light coalition with the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and Greens, but were unsuccessful. They subsequently agreed to a government with the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS).
Katina Schubert is a German politician who is serving as leader of the Berlin branch of The Left and member of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin since 2016. Since 2021, she has also been one of six deputy federal leaders of The Left.
The 2011 Berlin state election was held on 18 September 2011 to elect the members of the 17th Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin. The incumbent government consisting of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and The Left lost its majority.
Canan Bayram is a German lawyer and politician. She is a member of the 19th German Parliament (Bundestag). She was a member of the House of Representatives of Berlin from 2006 to 2017, when she was directly elected to the Berlin-Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg – Prenzlauer Berg East electoral district in the 2017 federal election. From 2017 until 2021, she was the only Alliance 90/Green member of parliament to hold a direct mandate rather than being elected from the party list.
Katrin Lompscher is a German politician who served as Senator for Urban Development and Housing in Berlin in the Senate of Governing Mayor Michael Müller from 2016 to 2020. A member of The Left, she previously served as Senator for Health, Environment and Consumer Protection from 2006 to 2011 in the third Senate of Governing Mayor Klaus Wowereit, and as a member of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin from 2011 until her resignation in 2017.

The Berlin expropriation referendum was held on the same day, as well as the Borough council elections who function as the municipal elections of Berlin.
Bettina Jarasch is a German politician of Alliance 90/The Greens who served as Deputy Mayor and Senator for Environment, Mobility, Consumer and Climate Protection in the Berlin state government from December 2021 to April 2023. She has been a member of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin from 2016 to 2021 and again since 2023, as well as leader of the Berlin branch of the Greens from 2011 to 2016. She was the Greens' lead candidate for the 2021 Berlin state election and again for the 2023 Berlin repeat state election.
Ricarda Lang is a German politician who has been serving as co-leader of the Alliance 90/The Greens since January 2022, alongside Omid Nouripour. She has been a member of the Bundestag since 2021. Previously, she was co-deputy leader of the party and spokeswoman for women's policy from 2019 to 2021, and co-leader of the Green Youth from 2017 to 2019.

Daniel Wesener is a German politician of the Alliance 90/The Greens who served as State Minister (Senator) for Finance in the government of Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey of Berlin from December 2021 to April 2023. He was previously state chairman of the Greens from 2011 to 2017, and a member of the State Parliament of Berlin from 2016 to 2022.
Dirk Behrendt is a German lawyer and politician of the Alliance 90/The Greens. He served as Senator for Justice, Consumer Protection and Anti-Discrimination in the Berlin state government from 2016 to 2021, and as a member of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin from 2006 to 2016. Prior to this, he was a judge in Berlin and served as spokesman of the Berlin–Brandenburg Judges Association.

The fourth Wowereit senate was the state government of Berlin between 2011 and 2014, sworn in on 24 November 2011 after Klaus Wowereit was elected as Governing Mayor by the members of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin. It was the 25th Senate of Berlin.
The 2023 Berlin repeat state election was held on 12 February 2023 to once again elect the 19th Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin. The 19th Abgeordnetenhaus was originally elected in the 2021 Berlin state election held on 26 September. On 16 November 2022, the Constitutional Court of the State of Berlin declared the results invalid due to numerous irregularities and ordered a repeat election within 90 days. A decision by the Federal Constitutional Court regarding five constitutional complaints is still pending but would not be decided until after the repeat election. The incumbent government was a coalition of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), The Greens, and The Left led by Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey. Alongside the Abgeordnetenhaus election, the boroughs of Berlin council results were also ruled invalid and repeat elections ordered for the same date.
The Wegner senate is the current state government of Berlin, sworn in on 27 April 2023 after Kai Wegner was elected as Governing Mayor of Berlin by the members of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin. It is the 29th Senate of Berlin.
