Katie Doar (born 11 September 2001) [1] is a New Zealand field hockey player, who plays as a midfielder. [2]
Katie Doar was born and raised in Whangārei. [2] [3] She has an elder sister, Madison, who has also represented New Zealand in field hockey. [4] Doar attended Kamo Intermediate School and Whangarei Girls' High School before boarding at St Cuthbert's College in Auckland. [4] [5]
In 2019, Hockey New Zealand overhauled the National Hockey League. Until the conclusion of the league, Doar was a member of the Auckland team. [6]
Following the overhaul of the NHL, Doar was named in the Northern Tridents squad for New Zealand's new premier domestic competition, the Premier Hockey League. [7] [6] In the inaugural season of the league, Doar played in each game, helping the team to a silver medal. [8]
Katie Doar made her debut for the New Zealand U-21 team in 2018 during a Trans–Tasman test series against Australia in Hastings. [9]
She followed this up with an appearance at a Tri–Nations tournament in Canberra. [9]
Doar made her senior debut for the Black Sticks in 2019, during season one of the FIH Pro League. [10]
The New Zealand women's national field hockey team is also known as the Black Sticks Women. The team's best performances include a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, a third placing at the 2011 Champions Trophy, and fourth placings at the 1986 World Cup, 2012 Summer Olympics and 2016 Summer Olympics. As of December 2017, the team ranks fourth on the International Hockey Federation (FIH) world rankings.
