Kristina Vogel (born 10 November 1990) is a former German track cyclist. During her career, she won two gold medals and a bronze at the Olympic Games, [1] and became an eleven-time UCI World Champion. [2] She was paralysed following a crash in June 2018. [3]
Vogel was born in Leninskoye, a district of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, and moved to Germany with her parents when she was six months old. [4] In 2007 and 2008 she competed at the Junior European and World Championships and became a six-time junior world champion and two-time junior European champion.
In April 2009, Vogel was seriously injured after a collision with a minibus when riding on the roads near her home in Erfurt. She was in an artificial coma for two days. She recovered to compete at the 2010 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, where she finished fifth in the individual sprint and sixth in the team sprint alongside Miriam Welte. [5] She also competed at the 2011 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.
At the 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne, Vogel and Welte won the gold medal in the team sprint. They set a world record in qualifying which they broke again in the final. [6] Vogel and Welte went on to win the first ever Olympic gold medal in the women's team sprint later that year in London, benefiting from competitors being relegated in both the semifinal and final. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won another gold, in the women's sprint, and a bronze medal in the women's team sprint again with Miriam Welte. [1]
On 26 June 2018, in the Cottbus velodrome, Vogel collided at high speed with a Dutch junior cyclist who was practising a standing start. [7] The heavy impact on the concrete floor caused several fractures, severing her spinal cord at the seventh thoracic vertebrae and consequently caused paraplegia. Vogel's teammate Maximilian Levy was the first to come to her aid, [8] and following the accident, he and fellow cyclist Max Dörnbach, using the hashtag #staystrongkristina, went on to raise €119,752 for her recovery. [9] The Dutch cyclist was uninjured, [10] but Vogel was left paralysed. [11] [12]
In addition to her track cycling career, Vogel was a part-time police officer before her accident. [4] [5] [11] In 2019, she entered politics, standing for election as a candidate for the Christian Democratic Union of Germany in Erfurt city council elections. [13]

Simona Krupeckaitė is a Lithuanian former professional track cyclist. She is the 2009 500 m Time Trial World Champion and World Record holder at 33.296s, and the 2010 Keirin World Champion. She also won the 2009, 2010 and 2016 Lithuanian Sportsperson of the Year award. In 2010 Krupeckaitė reached one more world record. This time she achieved 10.793 s record at Flying 200 m time trial event. She retired from competition after the conclusion of the 2021 UCI Track Champions League in December of that year.
Sandie Clair is a French professional racing cyclist and bobsledder. She won her first title in 2005 in the national junior sprint championship. It qualified her for the European junior championship in Fiorenzuola, where she won the sprint and rode the keirin and 500m time trial. She came third in the junior world 500m championship a month later.
Anna Blyth is an English racing cyclist from Leeds. She began racing at 15, having been spotted by British Cycling at Benton Park. She joined the World Class Start Programme, becoming a member of the Olympic Development Plan and the Olympic Academy.
Jessica Varnish is a former British track cyclist. Varnish was part of the 2014 world record holding European Championships team sprint champions and is a multiple medalist at the World Championships.
Rebecca Angharad James is a Welsh former professional racing cyclist specialising in track cycling. James was the 2013 world sprint and keirin champion. She is a 2016 Rio Olympics double silver medalist.

Dannielle Jade "Danni" Khan is an English racing cyclist, who currently rides for British amateur team Saint Piran WRT. She won the sprint and 500m TT events at the Juniors world championships in 2013, as well as the silver medal in the Keirin.
Anastasia Sergeyevna Voynova is a Russian professional track cyclist. She won the bronze medal in the 500 m time trial event at the 2014 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. At the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, she won a silver medal in the team sprint and a gold in the 500 m time trial. At the 2015 UEC European Track Championships, Voinova broke the 500 m time trial world record in 32.794 seconds.
Elis Ligtlee is a Dutch track cyclist. She represented her nation at the 2014 and 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. She won the gold medal in the keirin race at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Following her Olympic victory, Ligtlee was officially inducted to the Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Shanne Braspennincx is a Dutch track cyclist. She competed at the 2014 and 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. She won the gold medal in the keirin race at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Daria Mikhailovna Shmeleva is a Russian professional track cyclist. She rode at the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships along with Anastasia Voynova and won silver medal in the team sprint event.
Elena Viktorovna Brejniva is a Russian professional racing cyclist. She rode at the 2012, 2014 and 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.
Zhong Tianshi is a Chinese track cyclist. She represented her nation at the 2012, 2014 and 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. In 2015, she became world champion in the team sprint and won bronze in the sprint.
Martha Bayona Pineda is a Colombian track cyclist. She represented her nation at the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, and also finished tenth in the women's keirin at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Nicky Degrendele is a Belgian professional track and road cyclist, who most recently rode for UCI Track Team BEAT Cycling Club. Most notably, she became world champion at the age of 21 in Women's Keirin at the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn. She formerly rode for the Sport Vlaanderen–Guill D'or team; in October 2018 she joined BEAT Cycling Club.
Pauline Sophie Grabosch is a German track cyclist, representing Germany at international competitions. She won the a Bronze medal in the Women's Team Sprint at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She won the silver medal at the 2016 UEC European Track Championships in the 500m time trial.
Miriam Vece is an Italian road and track cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's Continental Team Valcar–Travel & Service. Representing Italy at international competitions, Vece competed at the 2016 UEC European Track Championships in the 500m time trial and team sprint events.
Lea Sophie Friedrich is a German professional track cyclist. In October 2019, she won the silver medal in the women's team sprint event at the 2019 UEC European Track Championships.
