Lawrenceton is an unincorporated community located in the southern part of Jackson Township in Sainte Genevieve County, Missouri, United States. The town lies 14 miles to the west of Ste. Genevieve. [1]
Lawrenceton was named after Henry Lawrence, a businessman who had contributed in the development of the settlement. Henry Lawrence had a flour mill, a farm, and a store, from which mail was delivered. The original name of the settlement was Punjaub, similar in name to the district in India, although there is no explanation for its origin. Some people have tried to explain the name as a corruption of pond job because of a dam built at that location for a water-powered mill. [2]

The community was founded in 1905 by workers at the lime plant at Brickey's. The workers had previously lived on company property, and settled Needmore to be more independent from the restrictions imposed on them by the lime plant company. Neighbors often said that the people in the new settlement were always needing more, hence the name.
Thomure is an unincorporated community in Ste. Genevieve Township in eastern Sainte Genevieve County, Missouri, United States. It is situated approximately two miles north of Ste. Genevieve. Thomure was established as a railroad siding for river boats and ferries at Little Rock Landing on the Mississippi River. It was named for F. J. Thomure, superintendent of the Mississippi River and Bonne Terre Railroad.
