Leah Kalanguka (born 1991) is a Ugandan actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Uganda 2014 and represented her country at the Miss World 2014 pageant. [1]

Background and education

Leah was born in Busembatya, in Iganga District, circa 1991, into a family of six siblings; all female. He father, Kayondo Kalanguka is employed at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Uganda), and her mother Jane Bagaya Kalanguka, teaches agriculture at Makerere College School. [2]

She attended Nakasero Primary School before joining Trinity College Nabbingo for her primary and secondary education, respectively. In 2012, she entered Makerere University to study Computer Engineering, graduating in 2015. [2]

Pageantry

Miss Uganda 2014

On Sunday 26 October 2014, Leah Kalanguka, representing Iganga District, was crowned as Miss Uganda 2014, at a ceremony held at Speke Resort, in Munyonyo, beating off 19 other contestants. [2] [3] Although she represented a district from Eastern Uganda, she missed the eastern regional search. She was away in Tooro, helping to teach youths how to grow cabbages, something her mother, who also hails from the sub-region, had taught her. She was able to enter the contest through the open selection held in Kampala, which was open to all single girls who had never given birth and who were between the ages of 18 and 24. [2]

Miss World 2014

Leah represented Uganda in Miss World 2014 pageant held in London, United Kingdom, in December 2014. [4] [5]

Other roles

In 2015 Leah made a guest appearance in Sipi the Movie , directed by Jayant Maru, and featuring Stephen Kiprotich and Ugandan actor Patriq Nkakalukanyi. [6]

In 2016, she participated as a contestant in the World Next Top Model 2016. [7] At that contest, she was voted Miss People's Choice out of a total of forty four contestants. She had the highest number of votes on the contest's online voting platform. [8]

Stephen Kiprotich is a Ugandan long-distance runner. He is an Olympic marathon champion, having won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Kiprotich also won a gold at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. After Gezahegne Abera, he is the second person to follow an Olympic marathon title with a world championship gold medal for the same event.

Miss World 2015, the 65th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 19 December 2015 at the outdoor arena of the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China. 114 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. Rolene Strauss of South Africa crowned her successor Mireia Lalaguna of Spain at the end of the event. It was the first time in the history of Miss World that Spain won the pageant.

Anu Namshir born April 12, 1991, is a Mongolian model, graphic designer and beauty pageant titleholder who represented Mongolia at the Miss International 2013, Miss Manzhouli 2014, World Bikini Model 2015, Asian Star Model 2015 Supermodel International 2015, Miss World 2015, Miss Tourism Queen International 2016 pageant. She won the Miss Mongolia 2013 title and was later crowned as World Bikini Model International 2014 and Miss Manzhouli 2014 (winner) in China, Asian Star Model 2015 Supermodel International 2015 (winner) in Korea and Miss World Mongolia 2015. Miss World 2016, the 66th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on December 18, 2016 at the MGM National Harbor, Oxon Hill, Maryland, United States. 117 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. Mireia Lalaguna of Spain crowned her successor Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico at the end of the event. It was the second time that the Miss World pageant held in the United States. It was the second time where Puerto Rico won Miss World, after Wilnelia Merced in 1975.

Quiin Abenakyo is a Ugandan model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Uganda 2018. She represented Uganda at Miss World 2018 in China and was crowned Miss World Africa 2018. At the Miss World 2018 contest, Abenakyo was a winner in the head to head challenge portion of the contest, and she placed in the Top 5 overall. She is the first Ugandan to place this high in this annual pageant.

Leah Kagasa, is a model and beauty pageant contestant who was crowned Miss Uganda 2016 at the age of 21 years. She reigned for 2 years as Miss Uganda from 2016 to 2018. She represented Uganda in Miss World 2016 in Washington, DC, that December. Currently she is involved in the Miss Uganda Foundation charity organization as an advocate for social issues like sanitation, teenage pregnancies and girl child education.

Zahara Nakiyaga, also Zahra Nakiyaga is a beauty pageant contestant who was crowned Miss Uganda 2015 at the age of 23 years. She represented Uganda in Miss World 2015 in Sanya, China, in December 2015.

Sylvia Wilson Namutebi Alibhai is a Ugandan former model and beauty pageant titleholder. She reigned as Miss Uganda in 2011 and represented Uganda at Miss World later that year.

Doreen Kabareebe is a Ugandan fashion model, socialite, branding coach and social media influencer. She was one of the contestants in the Miss Uganda beauty pageant in 2010.
