Lego Disney Princess is a Lego theme that centers around the various Disney Princesses involved in different Disney films. [3] It is licensed from Walt Disney Pictures. [4] [5] The theme was first introduced in 2014. [6]

According to Bricklink, The Lego Group released a total of 71 Lego sets and promotional polybags based on Lego Disney Princess and 29 sets and promotional polybags based on Lego Disney. [1] [2]

Construction sets

In 2014, Lego Group partnered with Disney. The first sets were released on 2 January 2014 based on several Disney films, with six sets being released. The largest of the sets was Cinderella's Romantic Castle (set number: 41055) which included 646 pieces and two minifigures. In addition, the first polybag Rapunzel's Market Visit (set number: 30116) was released as a promotion. Each of the Disney Princess minidoll figures, which are about the same size as a traditional minifigure, but are more detailed and realistic, like the minidolls in the Lego Friends theme. The sets were designed primarily for girls aged 5 to 12.

In 2015, the second wave of sets were released on 1 January 2015. The largest of these sets was Ariel's Undersea Palace (set number: 41063) which included 379 pieces and two minifigures.

In 2017, six sets were released, which included Cinderella's Kitchen (set number: 30551). Later, another two sets were released in November based on the Moana film. [17] [18] [19]

In 2018, nine sets were released. [20] [21] These included Ariel's Underwater Symphony (set number: 30552).

Duplo

Duplo Disney Princess themed sets have also been produced as part of the Duplo theme and was released in January 2015. These sets are twice the length, height, and width of traditional Lego bricks, making them easier to handle and less likely to be swallowed by younger children. Despite their size, they are still compatible with traditional Lego bricks. The Duplo Disney Princess sets are aimed at children aged two to five, such as Disney Princess Collection (set number: 10596). [22]

Publications

A quarterly Lego Disney Princess magazine published by Blue Ocean Entertainment was launched from 2020 to accompany the toy line. [23]

Reception

In 2015, the Toy Retailers Association listed the Elsa’s Sparkling Ice Castle (set number: 41062) on its official list of Dream Toys 2015. [24] In 2017, the Toy Retailers Association listed the Disney Castle (set number: 71040) on its official list of Toy of the Year Awards. [25] In 2020, The Lego Group reported that the Lego Technic, Lego Star Wars, Lego Classic, Lego Disney Princess, Lego Harry Potter and Lego Speed Champions, "The strong results are due to our incredible team,” and that these themes had helped to push revenue for the first half of 2020 grow 7% to DKK 15.7 billion compared with the same period in 2019. Lego Harry Potter is a Lego theme based on the films of the Harry Potter series. It is licensed from Warner Bros.. Lego models of important scenes, vehicles and characters were made for the first six films and all the books released. The first sets appeared in 2001, to coincide with the release of the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Subsequent sets were released alongside the new films, until Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The line then went dormant for three years, with sets being released in 2010 and 2011. In 2018, it was announced that more sets based on the Harry Potter franchise would be released, including new sets based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and its sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Lego Star Wars is a Lego theme that incorporates the Star Wars saga and franchise. Originally it was only licensed from 1999 to 2008, but The Lego Group extended the license with Lucasfilm, first until 2011, then until 2016, then again until 2022. The brand has spawned an eponymous video game series containing six video games, developed by Traveller's Tales: Lego Star Wars: The Video Game (2005), Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (2006), Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (2007), Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (2011), Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2016) and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (TBA). Many short films and miniseries have also been produced.

Lego <i>Toy Story</i>

Lego Toy Story is a Lego theme based on the Disney·Pixar's Toy Story film franchise. The first four sets were released on December 30, 2009, with an additional two sets being released on January 4, 2010. In May, five Lego and four Duplo sets were released under the Toy Story 3 sub-theme. For the release of Toy Story 4 there was one Duplo set based on the third film and 6 Lego sets based on the fourth film. These sets were released in March and in April of 2019 this time under the Juniors line.

Lego <i>Prince of Persia</i>

Lego Prince of Persia is a Lego theme based on the video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and the film of the same name. It is licensed from Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films. The theme was first introduced in 2010. The Lego theme was discontinued by the end of 2011.

Lego Ninjago is a Lego theme that was introduced in 2011, which is a flagship brand of The Lego Group. It is the first to be based on ninja since the discontinuation of the Lego Ninja theme in 2000. Whilst it retains some elements of the previous theme, it is based on a more detailed storyline set within a fantasy world, primarily underpinned by the computer-animated television series that it is based on, Ninjago.

Lego Pirates of the Caribbean is a Lego theme that is based on the film series of the same name. It is licensed from Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films. There are nine known sets. The first wave was released in May 2011 with the second wave coming out in November 2011. In November 2010, it was officially announced by Lego that the video game Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game was in production. It was released on May 10, 2011 in North America. The series acts as a thematic replacement for the popular Lego Pirates theme, featuring many of the same elements. Most of the sets are similar to the Lego Pirates theme. The theme was first introduced in 2011 and discontinued in 2017.

Lego Friends is a product range of Lego construction toys designed primarily for girls. Launched in 2012, the theme introduced "mini-doll" figures, which are about the same size as traditional Lego minifigures but are more detailed and realistic. The five main characters of the theme are Andrea, Olivia, Stephanie, Mia and Emma. The Lego Friends sets depict scenes from suburban life set in the fictional town of Heartlake City and usually include one of the character's names in the titles. The sets are complemented by an animated series that premiered in 2014. The Friends product range replaced Lego's previous female-oriented theme Belville, which had been in production since 1994, and featured dolls that were much larger than both the mini-dolls and minifigures. The launch of Lego Friends in 2012 was one of Lego's biggest successes, as it not only doubled sales expectations, but also extensively widened Lego's customer base within the girls' sector. Despite receiving initial criticism relating to its representation of girls and their interests, the line has consistently performed well and has been regularly listed as one of The Lego Group's best selling themes.

Lego Super Heroes is a theme and product range of the Lego construction toy, introduced in 2011. The line features DC Comics, Marvel Comics, and Pixar's The Incredibles franchises. Lego Batman existed as its own franchise from 2006 to 2008 before the official DC "Super Heroes" brand name was launched in late 2011. Lego Spider-Man first appeared in 2002, based on the Spider-Man film and its sequel, while sets based on the broader Marvel Comics universe were first launched on 10 April 2012 to feature alongside the 2012 film The Avengers. Meanwhile, sets based on Pixar's The Incredibles were launched on 15 June 2018 to feature alongside the 2018 animated film Incredibles 2.

Lego Legends of Chima

Lego Legends of Chima was a Lego theme that was introduced in 2013 and discontinued in 2015. The product line was based on the storyline of Legends of Chima, a 3D animated television series, which was produced to coincide with the Lego theme. The storyline was set in the fictional realm of "Chima", a fantasy world inhabited by various warring tribes of anthropomorphic animals that battle to collect a substance called "Chi". Alongside the television series, the theme also produced a range of associated media, including theme park attractions, video games, app and publications.

<i>Lego Elves</i> Lego theme

Lego Elves was a Lego product line produced by The Lego Group that was launched in 2015. It was accompanied by the Lego Elves animated television series and webisode series that began with a mini-movie titled Unite The Magic, which was released on the Lego YouTube channel, and on Netflix. The product line was based on the storyline of the animated series, which follows the adventures of a character named Emily Jones who travels to a magical land called Elvendale. The theme aimed to introduce a fantasy element to girl-focused Lego products. It was eventually discontinued by 2019.

<i>Nexo Knights</i>

Nexo Knights is a Danish-Canadian 3D animated television series that aired on Cartoon Network and premiered in 2016. It was produced by The Lego Group to coincide with the Lego theme of the same name. The series is based on a fantasy castle concept and is set in a futuristic kingdom called Knighton, which is home to five young knights. The storyline follows the adventures of the five knights as they defend their home from a court jester named Jestro and his monsters. Four seasons were produced for a total of 40 episodes. The fourth season finished airing in 2017. In 2018, The Lego Group discontinued the Nexo Knights theme, which also resulted in the cancellation of the series.

Lego Juniors Product range of the Lego construction toy

Lego Juniors is a product range of the construction toy Lego, designed for children aged 4 to 7 years old. It acts as a transition from the Duplo to the regular Lego System. Lego Juniors initial release was on February 14, 2014, with the tagline Easy to build. It is the successor of the Bricks & More line released in 2009. Unlike its predecessor, Lego Juniors offers specialized bricks to make builds look more realistic yet using fewer pieces for an easier build. Later, it was discontinued in 2018 and replaced with "4+". 

Lego Trolls World Tour Lego theme

Lego Trolls World Tour is a Lego theme based on the same name of the film. It is licensed from Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation. The theme was first introduced in 2020.

The Lego Movie (Lego theme) Lego product line based on The Lego Movie

The Lego Movie(Lego theme) was a Lego product line based on the 2014 film The Lego Movie. It was licensed from The Lego Group and Warner Bros. Animation. The theme was first introduced in 2014 to coincide with the release of the film, along with The Lego Movie Video Game. Further sets were produced to coincide with the release of the second film in The Lego Movie franchise, titled The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. The theme was discontinued by the end of 2019.

The Lego Batman Movie (Lego theme) Lego theme

The Lego Batman Movie(Lego theme) was a product line based on The Lego Batman Movie, the second film of The Lego Movie franchise. It is licensed from The Lego Group, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation. The theme was first introduced in 2017 as part of a licensing and merchandising programme associated with the film. Alongside the release of the Lego sets, the programme included the release of several promotional short films and The Lego Batman Movie Game. The Lego theme was discontinued by the end of 2018.

Lego Jurassic World (theme) Lego theme

Lego Jurassic World is a Lego theme based on the Jurassic World film trilogy. It is licensed from Universal Studios. The theme was introduced in 2015, with the release of toy sets and the video game Lego Jurassic World, both to promote the film Jurassic World. Subsequent sets were released in 2018, alongside the next film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Various animated projects have also been made, including the 2018 television special Lego Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit, and the 2019 miniseries Lego Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar.

Lego The Powerpuff Girls is a Lego theme based on the Cartoon Network television show The Powerpuff Girls of the same name. It is licensed from Cartoon Network. Before the launch of the Lego The Powerpuff Girls theme, the two packs was released for the Lego Dimensions toys-to-life video game in 2017. The theme was first introduced in 2018. The Lego theme was discontinued by the end of 2019.
