Lego Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (stylized as LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) was a Lego theme based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles entertainment franchise first created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The theme was first introduced in 2012 and was discontinued by the end of 2014. Also included sets based on both the 2012 animated series [2] [3] [4] [5] from Nickelodeon and the 2014 film [6] produced by Michael Bay. [7] [8]

Overview

The product line focuses on the turtles emerging from their sewer home for the first time. They use their ninjutsu training to fight enemies in present-day New York City. In addition, a life-sized Lego model of Shredder displayed at San Diego Comic-Con, along with Lego sets based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles television series and feature film. [9] Lego Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aimed to recreate the main characters in Lego form, including Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo and Donatello. [10] [11]

Development

Lego Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was inspired by 2012 TV series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Lego construction toy range was based on the TV series and developed in collaboration with The Lego Group and Nickelodeon. The construction sets were designed to recreate the story and characters of the TV series in Lego form. [10] [12]

Launch

Lego Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was launched at New York Comic Con in 2012. As part of the marketing campaign, The Lego Group released the first wave sets based on the 2012 animated series from Nickelodeon. Each set featured different vehicles, lair and combat robot. Minifigures were also released, including Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo and Donatello. [13] [14] [15] [11]

Construction sets

According to BrickLink, The Lego Group released a total of 23 Lego sets and promotional polybags as part of Lego Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme. [1] The product line was eventually discontinued by the end of 2014. [18]

In 2012, The Lego Group had a partnership with Nickelodeon. [10] [19] [20] [21] The Lego Group had announced that the first wave sets based on the 2012 animated series from Nickelodeon was released on 20 December 2012. [22] [23] [24] [25] The 6 sets [6] being released were Kraang Lab Escape (set number: 79100), [26] Shredder's Dragon Bike (set number: 79101), [26] Stealth Shell in Pursuit (set number: 79102), [26] Turtle Lair Attack (set number: 79103), [26] The Shellraiser Street Chase (set number: 79104) [26] [27] [28] and Baxter Robot Rampage (set number: 79105). [26] In addition, 2 polybag sets released as promotions are Kraang's Turtle Target Practice (set number: 30270) [29] and Mikey's Mini-Shellraiser (set number: 30271). The two exclusive minifigures are Shadow Leonardo [30] and Kraang [31] [32] were given away at New York Comic Con and the Rockefeller Lego store, respectively, to promote the theme.

In 2014, the second wave sets [33] [34] [35] was released on 2 April 2014. The 8 sets [36] [37] [38] being released were Karai Bike Escape (set number: 79118), [39] [40] Mutation Chamber Unleashed (set number: 79119), [39] [40] T-Rawket Sky Strike (set number: 79120), [39] [40] Turtle Sub Undersea Chase (set number: 79121) [39] [40] [41] [42] and Shredder's Lair Rescue (set number: 79122). [39] [40] [43] Also included Turtle Lair (set number: 10669) released as a sub-brand of the Lego Juniors theme. [44] In addition, Flashback Shredder (set number: 5002127) [45] polybag set have been released as promotion. These included a 5 key chains with a key chain attached to the minifigures of the Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Splinter.

Later, the sets based on the 2014 film [9] [46] [47] [48] by Michael Bay was released on 8 July 2014. The 3 sets [49] [50] being released were Turtle Van Takedown (set number: 79115), [49] [50] [51] Big Rig Snow Getaway (set number: 79116) [49] [50] [51] and Turtle Lair Invasion (set number: 79117). [49] [50] [51]

The theme was designed primarily for children aged 5 to 14. Later, it was announced that the theme was discontinued and no longer available at the LEGO Store or online shop. However, the theme was eventually cancelled, with Mega Bloks [52] [53] receiving Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license for brick-based construction sets.

Web shorts

The 8 web shorts have been released on YouTube inspired by both the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012 TV series) as well as the Lego toyline.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is a 2013 hack and slash video game developed by Red Fly Studio and published by Activision. Although not a direct adaptation of the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, the game is heavily inspired by the show. Out of the Shadows features a four-player online mode and offline two-player co-op. In the game' story, the Turtles face various adversaries, including the Foot Clan, the Purple Dragons, Baxter Stockman, and the Kraang, while trying to stop the Shredder from developing a new weapon using stolen Kraang technology that could eliminate them and their allies.

"Rise of the Turtles" is the two-part series premiere of the 2012 animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The first part of the episodes aired on Nickelodeon on September 28, 2012, with the second part airing the following day on September 29, 2012.

The first season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aired on Nickelodeon from September 28, 2012, to August 8, 2013. The season introduces the four turtles Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo.

The second season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aired on Nickelodeon from October 12, 2013, to September 26, 2014.

<i>Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures</i>

Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures is a six-issue intercompany crossover comic book miniseries featuring fictional heroes Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The miniseries is based on a previous intercompany crossover titled Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles between DC Comics and IDW Publishing, which was first announced during IDW's panel at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con and released as a six-part monthly miniseries in late 2015 and early 2016.

Lego Juniors was a product range of the construction toy Lego, designed for children aged 4 to 7 years old. It acted as a transition from the Duplo to the regular Lego System. Lego Juniors initial release was on February 14, 2014, with the tagline Easy to build. It was the successor to the Bricks & More line released in 2009. Unlike its predecessor, Lego Juniors offered specialized bricks to make builds look more realistic while using fewer pieces for an easier build. The product line was discontinued by December 31, 2018 and rebranded as "4+" in 2019.
