Lidia Olegovna Fridman, born 20 February 1996, is a Russian operatic soprano.
She was born in Samara, Russia, and graduated in singing and piano in 2011 from the School of the Arts No. 17. [1] In 2015 she completed her degree in the vocal department of the Samara Music College D.G. Shatalov. [2] From 2015 to 2018 Fridman attended the Tomadini Conservatory of Music in Udine. She later studied at the Conservatory of Music “Benedetto Marcello” in Venice, and while there completed an internship at the Belcanto Rodolfo Celletti's Academy in Martina Franca, with Fabio Luisi as music director.
Fridman made her theatrical debut in 2019 in the lead role in the first modern production of Albinoni's opera La Statira , at La Fenice in Venice. She subsequently performed at the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca where she sang the title role in the opera Ecuba by Nicola Antonio Manfroce in an updated staging by Pier Luigi Pizzi. [3] Additionally she starred in the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo as Sylvia de Linares in the world premiere of the opera L'Ange de Nisida directed by Francesco Micheli. [4]
In 2020 Fridman assumed leading roles in the operas Dido and Aeneas in Padova and Lucrezia Borgia at Müpa Budapest, Teatro Verdi in Trieste and the Aalto Theatre in Essen. [5] During the 2021–2022 season she sang lead roles in the operas Norma at La Monnaie in Brussels and at Teatro Regio in Turin; Aroldo at the Theatre Galli in Rimini; Don Giovanni at Deutsche Oper Berlin; [6] Il segreto di Susanna at the Konzerthaus in Berlin; and Eugene Onegin at Staatsoper Hannover. [7]
In 2022 she was invited by Pier Luigi Pizzi to make her debut as Giuseppe Verdi's Lady Macbeth on a tour in Italy. The following year she sang the main roles in the first staging of the opera Dalinda by Gaetano Donizetti, at the Konzerthaus Berlin, [8] and in Richard Strauss's Salome at the Immling Festival. [9] In 2024 she will play the role of Amelia in the opera Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro Regio di Torino under the direction of Riccardo Muti. [10]
Fridman's repertoire extends to modern music by composers writing specifically for her voice: L’ombra della luce by Marco Sinopoli (Biennale Festival in Venice 2019), the opera Cassandra by Marco Podda (Theater Coccia of Novara, 2020) and Epigrammi by Domenico Turi (Verdi Theater in Martina Franca, 2022).
Many plays by Fridman received high marks from opera critics in Europe, the UK and the US, [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] who noted that her voice has a rare dark (metal) timbre, and her performances are distinguished by filigree phrase and emotional acting. [17]

She forged important long-term artistic partnerships with two opera houses during her career: the National Theatre in Belgrade and the Vienna State Opera.
Mariella Devia is an Italian operatic soprano. After beginning her career as a lyric coloratura soprano, in the finale part of it she also enjoyed considerable success with some of the most dramatic roles in the bel canto repertoire.
Karl Gustaf Ingvar Wixell was a Swedish baritone who had an active international career in operas and concerts from 1955 to 2003. He mostly sang roles from the Italian repertory, and, according to The New York Times, "was best known for his steady-toned, riveting portrayals of the major baritone roles of Giuseppe Verdi — among them Rigoletto, Simon Boccanegra, Amonasro in Aida, and Germont in La traviata".
L'Ange de Nisida is an opera semiseria in four acts by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti, from a French-language libretto by Alphonse Royer and Gustave Vaëz.
Gaetano Fraschini was an Italian tenor. He created many roles in 19th century operas, including five composed by Giuseppe Verdi. His voice was "heroic ... with a baritonal quality, ... yet Verdi and Donizetti appreciated his ability to sing softly and with subtlety." An Italian biographer has pointed out Fraschini's role in extending the longevity of Donizetti's operas, while at the same time accelerating the ascent of Verdi's repertory. He was indeed the most prominent singer who facilitated the transition from Donizetti to Verdi. Fraschini sang over one hundred roles and Verdi placed him at the top of his favorite tenors' list and described him as a "natural Manrico" for his Il trovatore. Fraschini also played a pivotal role in the success of many operas by Pacini and Mercadante.
Vincenzo La Scola was an Italian tenor who had a successful international opera career for more than 25 years. He was particularly admired for his portrayals in operas by Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Gaetano Donizetti, and Vincenzo Bellini. He also achieved success as a crossover artist, particularly in his many collaborations with singer-songwriter Cliff Richard and for his solo crossover album for EMI, Vita Mia (1999). In 2000 he was made a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and from 2004 until his sudden death in 2011 he served as principal teacher and artistic director of the Accademia Verdi Toscanini in Parma.
Maria Spezia-Aldighieri (1828–1907) was an Italian operatic soprano who had an active international career from 1849 up into the 1870s. She excelled in the coloratura soprano repertoire and was particularly admired for her portrayals in the operas of Giuseppe Verdi. Her performance of Violetta in Verdi's La traviata at the Teatro San Benedetto in Venice in 1854 is credited with popularizing the opera after it had initially flopped at its premiere in 1853. She was married to baritone Gottardo Aldighieri and is the great grandmother of singer George Aaron.
Nicolas-Prosper Dérivis was a French operatic bass. He possessed a rich deep voice that had a great carrying power. While he could easily assail heavy dramatic roles, he was also capable of executing difficult coloratura passages and performing more lyrical parts. Along with Nicolas Levasseur, he was one of the greatest French basses of his generation.

Abroad he has performed at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, the Royal Opera House in London, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, San Francisco Opera House, the Konzerthaus and the Staatsoper in Vienna, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and others.

Margherita Zenoni was an Italian opera singer who sang leading soprano roles in the opera houses of Italy and abroad from the early 1850s. She left Europe in 1867, first to sing with Annibale Biacchi's Italian opera company in Cuba and then to tour with Augusto Cagli's Italian opera company in Australasia. She remained with Cagli's company in its various incarnations until 1877, singing in India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. She died in Turin, her native city, less than a year after her return from South Africa.
