Life Is Strange: Reunion is an upcoming adventure game developed by Deck Nine and will be published by Square Enix. The fifth main installment of the Life Is Strange series, it is a direct sequel to Life Is Strange: Double Exposure (2024). The plot will follow Chloe Price's reunion with protagonist Max Caulfield at Caledon University, as the former needs help dealing with memories of a life or death she may not have lived out, amidst the imminent coming of a destructive inferno threatening to destroy the campus. Max and Chloe feature as the playable characters, having respectively the "rewind" power to manipulate time and the "backtalk" ability to confront opponents and access restricted areas.

Contents

Deck Nine had been reported to be working on a sequel to Double Exposure since 2025, and the first leaks of Reunion came in January 2026 via the Pan-European Game Information ratings board. Its official reveal was confirmed later that month. The game is set for release on March 26, 2026.

Gameplay

For the first time in the series, Life Is Strange: Reunion features two playable characters: Max Caulfield and Chloe Price. [1] Max's "rewind" power from the first game returns, allowing her to undo actions and stay in the past via polaroid photographs. [2] The power is now more flexible, meaning it can be used at any time in the game, though it is limited in range to a few minutes and Max may only rewind at places to points in time she was already there. [3] Chloe's "backtalk" ability returns from Life Is Strange: Before the Storm (2017), [1] allowing her to confront opponents and access restricted areas in the game. [2]

Premise

Set at Caledon University after the events of Double Exposure, Life Is Strange: Reunion sees Max Caulfield (Hannah Telle) return to the campus after a weekend away to find it set ablaze. Following Max's attempt to merge the two timelines in Double Exposure, her rewind power returns, allowing her to go back three days before the incident using a Polaroid photograph. [4] All the while, Chloe Price (Rhianna DeVries) returns to Max, and is wrought with memories of life or death that she may or may not have lived out. [4] [1] Chloe seeks Max's help regarding these memories, while also helping Max investigate the cause of the fire that would engulf Caledon. [1] Choices made by the player in the first game and Double Exposure in regards to Chloe's fate and Max's relationship with her are reflected via branching dialogue options. [4] [2] Reunion has also been described as being the conclusion to Max and Chloe's story. [1]

Development

In 2025, developer Deck Nine was reported to be working on a sequel to Life is Strange: Double Exposure. [5] Disgruntled developers had leaked information regarding the franchise suggesting troubled development. [6]

Release

Life Is Strange: Reunion will be released on March 26, 2026 for PS5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. [1] The entire game will release that day, not in episodic format like the original game. [7] The Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) ratings board leaked first information for Life Is Strange: Reunion including a synopsis on January 7, 2026. [5] Some publications expressed concern about the details leaked and discontent with the potential narrative; [8] [9] one commented that being given a PEGI rating signified the game being relatively close to launch. [10] On January 15, Square Enix announced the official reveal of a game in the series would happen on January 20. [6] Some publications connected this game with the leak of Reunion, [6] [11] [12] while others did not and speculated on the details of the game. [13] [14] Mixed reaction to Double Exposure was noted, [6] and Deck Nine addressed this on social media ahead of the game reveal. [12] Xbox Wire had published their announcement early in a leak. [15] [7] The announcement of Reunion established it as a direct sequel to Double Exposure and gave its release date, confirming Max and Chloe as playable characters. [1]
