Linchester is an unincorporated community in Caroline County, Maryland, United States. [1] The community's name is a portmanteau of Caroline County and that of neighboring Dorchester County. [2]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Maryland Route 331</span> Highway in Maryland

Maryland Route 331 (MD 331) is a 28.74-mile (46.25 km) state highway on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the United States. The route runs from Vienna in Dorchester County northwest to Easton in Talbot County, intersecting U.S. Route 50 (US 50) at both ends. MD 331 is a two-lane undivided road most of its length that passes mostly through agricultural areas. The road also passes through the communities of Hurlock and Preston along the way. It encounters several routes during its journey, including MD 14 near Rhodesdale and MD 16 in the Preston area, both of which the route forms concurrencies with. In addition, the route also intersects with MD 392 and MD 307 in Hurlock and with MD 318 near Preston.

Two Johns, is an unincorporated community on Maryland's Eastern Shore in Caroline County, Maryland, United States. It is situated on Maryland Route 16. The name derives from an early resident who was a vaudeville actor, John Stewart Crossy. He toured with John Hart and a series of other girthy men as the "Two Johns" or the "Fat Men's Club" during the height of his popularity. The village appears on the 1897 Map of Caroline County.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Maryland Route 318</span> Highway in Maryland

Maryland Route 318 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. The state highway runs 11.32 miles (18.22 km) from MD 16/MD 331 at Preston east to the Delaware state line near Federalsburg, where the highway continues east as Delaware Route 18. MD 318 connects Federalsburg with Preston and Bridgeville, Delaware. The state highway follows the Dorchester–Caroline county line for most of its length between Linchester and Federalsburg. The county line road is considered to be in Caroline County for maintenance purposes. Further east, MD 318 runs concurrently with MD 313 to bypass Federalsburg. The portion of MD 318 west of Federalsburg was originally numbered Maryland Route 319 and assumed by MD 318 in the mid-1950s. The MD 319 section was constructed in the late 1910s near Federalsburg and completed west to MD 16/MD 331 in the late 1920s. MD 318 east of Federalsburg was built in the mid-1920s. MD 318 was placed on the bypass of Federalsburg in the early 1960s; its old alignment through Federalsburg became MD 315.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tuckahoe Creek</span>

Tuckahoe Creek is a 21.5-mile-long (34.6 km) tributary of the Choptank River on Maryland's Eastern Shore. It is sometimes (erroneously) referred to as the Tuckahoe River. Upstream of Hillsboro, it forms the boundary between Caroline County and Queen Anne's County, passing through Tuckahoe State Park and dividing the small towns of Queen Anne and Hillsboro. Downstream of Hillsboro, it forms the boundary between Caroline County and Talbot County, before flowing into the Choptank.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Linchester Mill</span> United States historic place

Linchester Mill is a historic grist mill located at Preston in Caroline County, Maryland, United States. The original mill was built at the site in about 1682; the current structure was erected in approximately 1840 and is a 2+12-story frame building sided in red-painted weatherboard and roofed with raised-seam metal. It is four bays long and two bays deep, with a two-story lean-to addition. Then known as Langrell's Mill, operations ceased in 1974 but currently houses a museum collection of milling machinery dating from the 19th century to the mid-20th century.
