Lincoln Peter Munro Jopp MC is a British politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Spelthorne as a member of the Conservative Party since 2024. [1]
Jopp is a businessman and former member of the British Army. [2] He is a veteran of the Sierra Leone Civil War. [3] In December 1999,he was presented the Military Cross by the Queen at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace. [4] His stepfather is John Horam,the former Conservative MP. [4]
Lincoln Jopp was born in 1968 in Barnes,London. He attended St Paul's School for his early education and later went on to study Theology &Philosophy at the University of Stirling. He also has a Masters degree from Cranfield University in Defence Technology and Management Science.[ citation needed ]
Jopp began his military career by enrolling in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst where he was awarded the Sword of Honour. Upon commissioning,he joined the 1st Battalion Scots Guards. [5] During his service,Lincoln Jopp was deployed to various conflict zones,including Northern Ireland,Iraq &Afghanistan. [5] His actions in Sierra Leone earned him the Military Cross. [6] . He commanded the Scots Guards in Afghanistan in the summer of 2010 and on The Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) in 2011. [2]
After retiring from active military service,Lincoln Jopp transitioned to a career in the civilian sector. He has held significant positions in various organisations,including The Pension SuperFund,where he worked as Director and Chief Operating Officer. [7] In 2022 he successfully launched a campaign to ensure more than 1,000 members of the Armed Forces deployed to cover industrial action during the festive period received extra payments. He also campaigned to ensure the Afghan interpreter he worked with was safely relocated in the UK,along with his family. [7] He was celebrated for leading five hours of the BBC's red button coverage of the King's Coronation –a hybrid television and radio offering for the blind and partially sighted. [7]
Lincoln Jopp is married to Caroline Jopp,co-founder of the Military Wives Choirs organisation. [8] They have been married for over 30 years and have 3 children together.

The Royal Anglian Regiment is an infantry regiment of the British Army. It consists of two Regular battalions and one Reserve battalion. It is a spin-off of the BBC Two television series The Choir:Military Wives. It was released on 19 December 2011 following a campaign to make it the 2011 UK Christmas number one. The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number 1,claiming the Christmas number 1 –selling more than 556,000 copies in the week,more than the rest of the Top 12 combined. The song also claimed the status of the biggest first week sales since "A Moment Like This" by Leona Lewis sold over 571,000 copies in its first week in 2006. The song was included on their debut studio album In My Dreams.
The Military Wives Choir is a registered charity and network of 75 choirs in British military bases across the UK and overseas,bringing women in the military community closer together through singing. With over 2,200 members,the MWC network is tri-service and any woman with a military connection can join including those currently serving,veterans,mothers,sisters,and daughters,empowering women from across the military community. The organisation is also a subsidiary charity of SSAFA.
The United Kingdom began a military intervention in Sierra Leone on 7 May 2000 under the codename Operation Palliser. Although small numbers of British personnel had been deployed previously,Palliser was the first large-scale intervention by British forces in the Sierra Leone Civil War. In early May 2000,the Revolutionary United Front (RUF)—one of the main parties to the civil war—advanced on the country's capital,Freetown,prompting the British government to dispatch an "Operational Reconnaissance and Liaison Team" (ORLT) to prepare to evacuate foreign citizens. On 6 May,the RUF blocked the road connecting Freetown to the country's main airport,Lungi. The next day,British soldiers began to secure the airport and other areas essential to an evacuation. The majority of those who wished to leave were evacuated within the first two days of the operation,but many chose to stay following the arrival of British forces.
