Rusty Wallace is an American former professional stock car driver and team owner, who raced from 1980 to 2005 in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, he raced for both Pontiac and Ford the ladder of which he is the all time NASCAR winner for the brand. [1] He began his career in 1973 and won a total 200 races in local circuits between 1974-1978. [2] He then shortly joined the NASCAR Cup Series where he won 55 races during his 25 year career and captured the Winston Cup Championship in 1989. Throughout his career Wallace was known to race his best on short tracks like Bristol, Martinsville and Richmond where he won many of his races. [3] [4] Outside of NASCAR Wallace won the ASA National Tour Championship in 1983 and the International Race of Champions in 1991. Since his retirement he has received numerous awards and recognition such as being inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2014 and being named one of the 75 best NASCAR drivers of all time in 2023.
