List of Ribes species

This list of Ribes species shows many of the approximately 200 accepted species in the plant genus Ribes , the single genus in the Saxifragales family Grossulariaceae. [1] Traditionally, these have been divided into a number of subgenera, such as subgenus Ribes (currants) and subgenus Grossularia (gooseberries). [2]

Gooseberry bushes produce an edible fruit and are grown on both a commercial and domestic basis. Its native distribution is unclear, since it may have escaped from cultivation and become naturalized. For example, in Britain, some sources consider it to be a native, others to be an introduction. The species is also occasionally naturalized in scattered locations in North America.
