<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tulu language</span> Dravidian language of Tulu Nadu region

The Tulu language is a Dravidian language whose speakers are concentrated in Dakshina Kannada and in the southern part of Udupi of Karnataka in south-western India and also in the northern parts of the Kasaragod district of Kerala. The native speakers of Tulu are referred to as Tuluva or Tulu people and the geographical area is unofficially called Tulu Nadu.

Havyaka Brahmin, originally called Havika Brahmana, is a Hindu Brahmin community native to the districts of Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, coastal Karnataka and the Kasaragod district of Kerala. Havyakas fall under the Pancha-Dravida Brahmin category. They are primarily the followers of Yajurveda, but some of them follow Rigveda and Samaveda Shakas as well. They follow the Advaita philosophy of Adi Shankaracharya.

The Bunt people are an Indian community who historically have inhabited the Tulu Nadu region in South India. Bunts were traditionally a warrior-class or martial caste community, with agrarian origins, forming the landed gentry of the region. They are the dominant land-owning, farming and banking community of Tulu Nadu and speak Tulu and Kundagannada as their mother tongue. Today, the Bunts are a largely urbanised community, with a population size of less than one million worldwide.

Dharmasthala Veerendra Heggade is an Indian philanthropist and the hereditary administrator of the Dharmasthala Temple. He succeeded to the post at the age of 19, on 24 October 1968, the 21st in his line. He administers the temple and its properties, which are held in trust for the benefit of devotees and of Dharma. He is a nominated Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha since July 2022.

Hegde or Heggade Pergade is a common surname found primarily in the Kanara, Tulu Nadu and Konkan regions of India. It is prevalent among various Hindu communities in these regions, including the Kuruba Gowda, Bunt, Saraswat Brahmins, Kannada Jain, Havyaka Brahmin, and Vokkaliga communities of Karnataka.

Udupi district is an administrative subdivision in the Karnataka state of India, with the district headquarters in the city of Udupi. It is situated in the Canara old north Malabar coastal region. There are seven taluks, 233 villages and 21 towns in Udupi district. The three northern tehsils of Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala, were partitioned from Dakshina Kannada district to form Udupi district on 25 August 1997. Moodabidri was officially declared as new tehsil (taluk) in 2018.

Kayyara Kinhanna Rai was an Indian independence activist, author, poet, journalist, teacher and farmer.

B. Janardhana Poojary is a senior politician from Indian National Congress party. He was a former Union Minister and Karnataka's Congress President. During the Prime Ministership of Smt. Indira Gandhi he had been appointed Union Minister of State for Finance in 1982 and he continued to be Union Minister of State for Finance during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi until 1987. Later Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi appointed Shree B. Janardhana Poojary as Union Minister of State for Rural Development from 1987 to 1989. Shree Rajiv Gandhi also appointed Shree B. Janardhana Poojary as General Secretary of All India Congress Committee in 1990 as well as President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee in 1990. He continued to be General Secretary of All India Congress Committee during the tenure of Prime Minister Shree P. V. Narasimha Rao up to 1996. After Shree Rajiv Gandhi his wife All India Congress Committee President & United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi also appointed Shree B. Janardhana Poojary as President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee in 2003 for the second time. He continued as President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee up to 2005.

Korgi Jayaprakash Hegde is an Indian politician who has been a Minister in the Government of Karnataka. He is the Chairman of the Karnataka Backward Class Commission. As Minister in charge of undivided Mangalore and Chikmagalur, in 1997, he is the reason for the creation of Udupi district, from undivided Mangalore and Udupi. He was also a Member of India's Parliament representing Udupi Chikmagalur.

Weekend with Ramesh is an Indian talk show hosted by Ramesh Aravind on Zee Kannada. The first season of the show began airing on 2 August 2014, and ended on 26 October 2014, after airing 26 episodes. The second season of the show aired from 26 December 2015 to 16 April 2016. The third season aired from 26 March 2017 and 2 July 2017. Raghavendra Hunsur directed the first Season, Prakash G., seasons 2 and 3, while Anil Kumar J. directed seasons 4 and 5. Pradyumna Narahalli wrote the seasons 2 and 3.

<i>Lungi</i> (film) 2019 Indian Kannada romantic film by Arjun Lewis

Lungi is a 2019 Indian Kannada romantic love story directed by Arjun Lewis and Akshith Shetty. The film has been bankrolled by Mukesh Hegde under the Khara Entertainment banner. The film stars newbie Pranav Hegde opposite Ahalya Suresh and Radhika Rao, while Prakash Thuminadu, Vj Vineeth, Karthik Varadaraju, Deepak Rai Panaji, and Roopa Vorkady appear in supporting roles.

Pattanaje is a 2017 Indian Tulu language film directed and Produced by Thonse Vijay Kumar Shetty, under the banner of KalaJagattu Creations. The film stars Shivadhwaj, Surya Rao, Reshma Shetty and Kaajal Kunder in main roles. Senior actors Chethan Rai, Mani, Sundar Rai, Mandara, Praveen Markame and Sita Kote also acted in the movie.

Gururaj Shetty Gantihole is an Indian politician as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party from Byndoor Assembly Constituency since May 2023 after he defeated Indian National Congress's candidate K Gopala Poojary by 16,153 votes contesting the 2023 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.
