Haider is a 2014 Indian crime-drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, and produced by Bhardwaj and Siddharth Roy Kapur. [1] The film stars Shahid Kapoor as the eponymous protagonist, and co-stars Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Shraddha Kapoor, and Irrfan Khan. [2] Bhardwaj wrote the dialogues for the film, and co-wrote the screenplay with Basharat Peer. [1] [3] Bhardwaj also composed the music and Gulzar wrote the lyrics. [4] The film is a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet , and tells the story of Haider who searches for his missing father during the Kashmir conflict of 1995. [5]
Produced on a budget of ₹240 million (US$2.9 million), [6] Haider was released on 2 October 2014, and grossed ₹690 million (US$8.3 million) worldwide. [7] The film garnered awards and nominations in several categories, with particular praise for its direction, performances of Shahid Kapoor and Tabu, music and production design. As of June 2015, the film has won 36 awards.
At the 62nd National Film Awards, Haider earned five awards, more than any other film at the ceremony, including Best Music Direction and Best Screenplay (Dialogues) (both Bhardwaj). [8] Haider also won five awards at the 60th Filmfare Awards ceremony, including Best Actor (Shahid Kapoor), Best Supporting Actor (Menon), and Best Supporting Actress (Tabu). [9] It also received nominations for Best Film and Best Director at the ceremony. [10] At the 2015 Screen Awards, Haider received nominations for Best Film and Best Director, and won five awards, including Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress. 2 States is the soundtrack to the 2014 film of the same name directed by Abhishek Varman based on Chetan Bhagat's novel 2 States: The Story of My Marriage. Starring Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, the film produced by Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film's soundtrack consisted of seven songs composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, who had recurringly composed for Dharma Productions' films, and had lyrics written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Varman wanted the trio to score the film in the first place in order to create a romantic album that "has soul and young energy" and have a longer shelf-life.
Ek Villain is the soundtrack to the 2014 film of the same name directed by Mohit Suri starring Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor. Mithoon composed and wrote three songs for the film, while Ankit Tiwari contributed music for one song "Galliyan" with lyrics by Manoj Muntashir which also features an unplugged version. The track "Awari" is composed and penned by Adnan Dhool and Rabbi Ahmed of the Pakistani pop and Sufi band Soch. The soundtrack which consisted six songs, released on 28 May 2014 under the T-Series label, to positive reviews.
