Soul is a 2020 American animated film written and directed by Pete Docter. It features the voice of Jamie Foxx as Joe Gardner, a middle school music teacher who seeks to reunite his soul and his body after he unexpectedly dies before his big break as a jazz musician. Tina Fey also stars as the voice of 22, a soul with a pessimistic view of life that Gardner tries to inspire to go to Earth. [1]
The film premiered at the London Film Festival on October 11, 2020, [2] and was scheduled to be theatrically released on November 20. However, the feature was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Soul being released direct-to-streaming on Disney+ on December 25, 2020, and in theaters in countries without the streaming service. [3] As of May 2021 [update] , Soul has grossed $116.2 million at the worldwide box office. [4] Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, surveyed 360 reviews and judged 95% of them to be positive. [5]
Soul garnered awards and nominations in various categories with particular recognition for its sound effects, musical score, and acting. It received three nominations at the 93rd Academy Awards, including Best Sound. The film won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score. Soul won seven of ten nominations at the 48th Annie Awards. At the 74th British Academy Film Awards, it was nominated for Best Sound, and won Best Animated Film and Best Original Music. The film won three awards at the 1st Critics' Choice Super Awards, before garnering the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Score at the 26th ceremony. Soul won Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Score at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. Various critic circles also picked Soul as the best animated feature film of the year. In addition, both the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review selected Soul as one of the top-ten films of 2020.
Cartoon Saloon is an Irish animation film, short film and television studio based in Kilkenny which provides film TV and short film services. The studio is best known for its animated feature films The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, The Breadwinner and Wolfwalkers. Their works have received five Academy Award nominations, their first four feature length works all received nominations for Best Animated Feature and one for Best Animated Short Film. The company also developed the cartoon series Skunk Fu!, Puffin Rock, Dorg Van Dango and Viking Skool. As of 2020, the studio employs 300 animators.

Wolfwalkers is a 2020 independent animated fantasy adventure film directed by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart. The film is the third and final installment in Moore's "Irish Folklore Trilogy", following his previous films The Secret of Kells (2009) and Song of the Sea (2014). An international co-production led by Cartoon Saloon and Mélusine Productions, the film premiered at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival on 12 September and was released theatrically in the United Kingdom on 26 October, in the United States and Canada on 13 November, and in Ireland on 2 December. It was released digitally on Apple TV+ on 11 December 2020, to critical acclaim.
Kemp Powers is an American playwright, screenwriter, and director. He is best known for his play One Night in Miami and the 2020 film adaptation of the same name, as well as for co-directing the animated films Soul (2020) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023). His screenplay for One Night in Miami... earned him a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination at the 93rd Academy Awards, while his work on Soul made him the first African-American to co-direct a Disney animated feature.

Soul: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the soundtrack to the 2020 Disney-Pixar film Soul. The soundtrack is a compilation of all 23 score pieces by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from the Soul: Original Motion Picture Score vinyl album as well as 16 original songs by Jon Batiste from the Music from and Inspired by Soul vinyl album. All three albums were released through Walt Disney Records on December 18, 2020.
