This list of churches in Vest-Agder is a list of the Church of Norway churches in Vest-Agder county, Norway. The churches in Agder are all part of the Diocese of Agder og Telemark along with the churches in the former Telemark county. The diocese is based at the Kristiansand Cathedral in the city of Kristiansand.
This list is divided into four sections, one for each Deanery (prosti) in the county. Administratively within each deanery, the churches are divided by municipalities, each of which have their own church council (fellesråd). Each municipal church council may be made up of more than one parish (sokn), each of which may have their own council (soknerådet). Each parish may have one or more congregations in it. [1]

This deanery covers the Otra river valley through Agder county, this includes the Setesdal and upper Torridal valleys. It includes Vennesla municipality (in Vest-Agder) and the municipalities of Bygland, Evje og Hornnes, Bykle, Iveland, and Valle (in Aust-Agder). The deanery is headquartered at Vennesla Church in the village of Vennesla in Vennesla municipality in Vest-Agder county.
Otredal deanery, originally called Torridal, was created 10 May 1862 when it was carved out of the three neighboring deaneries of Råbyggelaget, Mandal, and Vestre Nedenes. Initially, it included Oddernes, Øvrebø, Søgne, and Tveit. Over time, the borders of Torridal deanery have been changed. In 1883, the Søgne parish was moved (back) to the Mandal prosti and the Tveit parish was moved (back) to the Vestre Nedenes prosti. Also in 1883, the parishes of Valle, Evje, and Bygland joined Torridal when the old Setesdal (Råbyggelaget) deanery was dissolved. In 1905, the Tveit parish was moved back to Torridal. On 12 June 1931 the name of the deanery was changed from Torridal to Otredal. [2]

Aust-Agder was one 18 counties (fylker) in Norway up to 1 January 2020, when it was merged with Vest-Agder to form Agder county. In 2002, there were 102,945 inhabitants, which was 2.2% of Norway's population. Its area was 9,212 square kilometres (3,557 sq mi). The county's administrative center was the town of Arendal.

Vennesla lies about 17 kilometres (11 mi) north of the city of Kristiansand in the Otra river valley.
Marnardal was a municipality in Vest-Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sørlandet. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Heddeland. Other villages in Marnardal include Bjelland, Breland, Koland, Laudal, and Øyslebø.
Birkenes is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sørlandet. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Birkeland, where about half the municipal population lives. Other villages in Birkenes include Ås, Engesland, Flakk, Håbbesland, Herefoss, Mollestad, Oggevatn, Rugsland, Senumstad, Søre Herefoss, Svaland, Tveide, and Væting.
Iveland is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Setesdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Birketveit. Other villages in the municipality include Bakken, Skaiå, and Vatnestrøm.
Evje og Hornnes is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Setesdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Evje. Other villages in the municipality include Åneland, Dåsnesmoen, Flatebygd, Gautestad, Hornnes, Kjetså, and Øvre Dåsvatn. Evje og Hornnes was created as a new municipality on 1 January 1960 after the merger of the two older municipalities of Evje and Hornnes. The Norwegian National Road 9 runs north–south through the municipality, along the river Otra.
Bygland is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Setesdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Bygland. Other villages in the municipality include Åraksbø, Austad, Byglandsfjord, Grendi, Langeid, Lauvdal, Litveit, Longerak, Moi, Ose, Sandnes, Skåmedal, and Tveit. The Norwegian National Road 9 runs through the municipality, following the river Otra where most of the population of Bygland lives.

Kristiansand Region is a statistical metropolitan region in the counties of Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder in southern Norway. It is centered on the city of Kristiansand. The region consist of 6 municipalities in the centre of Southern Norway. Vennesla, Songdalen, and Birkenes are inland municipalities while Kristiansand, Søgne, and Lillesand are coastal municipalities. Kristiansand is the largest municipality in population in the region and Birkeland is the largest in area.
Southern Norway is the geographical region (landsdel) along the Skagerrak coast of southern Norway. The region is an informal description since it does not have any governmental function. It roughly corresponds to the old petty kingdom of Agder as well as the two former counties of Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder. From New Year 2020, the two counties have been merged into one county, Agder. The total combined area of Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties is 16,493 square kilometres (6,368 sq mi). The name is relatively new, having first been used in Norway around 1900.
The Otra is the largest river in the Sørlandet region of Norway. It begins in Setesdalsheiene mountains at the lake Breidvatnet in Bykle municipality in Agder county, just south of the border with Vinje municipality in Telemark county. The river then flows south through Bykle, Valle, Bygland, Evje og Hornnes, Iveland, Vennesla, and Kristiansand municipalities. The river empties into the Skagerrak in the center of the city of Kristiansand on the southern coast of Norway.

Østre Agder is a district or region in Agder county in southern Norway. The district covers the eastern, coastal areas of the county including the eight municipalities of Arendal, Tvedestrand, Risør, Grimstad, Gjerstad, Vegårshei, Åmli, and Froland. The city of Arendal is the largest city in the region. Other cities in the district include Tvedestrand, Grimstad, and Risør. This region is bounded by Telemark county to the north, by the Setesdal region to the northwest, and by the Kristiansand Region to the southwest.
Old Søgne Church is a historic parish church in Kristiansand municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the southeastern part of the village of Tangvall. The church is part of the Søgne parish in the Mandal deanery in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, timber-framed church was built around the year 1640 by an unknown architect. The church seats about 270 people. The "new" Søgne Church was built in 1861 to replace this (smaller) church. Since that time, this church is no longer regularly used, but it is available for special occasions such as baptisms and weddings.
Søgne Church is the main parish church in Kristiansand municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Lunde, just west of Tangvall. The church is part of the Søgne parish in the Mandal deanery in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden, cruciform church was built in 1861 by the architect Christian H. Grosch. The church, which seats about 750 people, was consecrated on 29 November 1861. The church was built to replace the older and smaller Old Søgne Church.
Vennesla Church is the main parish church in Vennesla municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Vennesla. The church serves the Vennesla parish in the Otredal deanery in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The church is also the seat of the dean of the Otredal deanery. The white, stone and wood church was completed in October 1829 and it was consecrated on 22 August 1830. The church seats about 240 people.
Austad Church is a parish church in Bygland municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Tveit on the south shore of the river Otra, just off the Norwegian National Road 9. The church is part of the Bygland parish in the Otredal deanery in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a rectangular style in 1880 by the architect Oskar Fabricius from Oslo. The church seats about 250 people. It was consecrated on 7 July 1880 by the Bishop Jørgen Moe. This church was built to replace a much older Austad Church that was located in Austad, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) to the southeast, on the other side of the river. The old church was torn down around the same time as the present church was built.
Hornnes Church is a parish church in Evje og Hornnes municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hornnes. The church is part of the Hornnes parish in the Otredal deanery in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in an octagonal style in 1828 using plans by the architect Lars Larsen Forsæth. The church seats about 300 people. It was consecrated on 22 June 1828 by the local dean from Evje Church. It was built by Leg Askildsen Hallingskaar, a builder from Laudal. He carved his name into the baptismal font which he gifted to the church.
