This is a list of members of the fifth Gauteng Provincial Legislature as elected in the election of 7 May 2014. In that election, the African National Congress (ANC) retained a significantly diminished majority in the legislature, winning 40 of 73 seats. The Democratic Alliance (DA), with 23 seats, retained its status as the official opposition in the legislature. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), a newly established party, became the third-largest party in the province with eight seats, while the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) retained one seat apiece. Three other parties – the African Christian Democratic Party, the Congress of the People, and the Independent Democrats – lost their representation in the legislature. [1]

The legislature was constituted on 21 May 2014 and, during its first sitting, it elected the ANC's David Makhura to his first term as Premier of Gauteng. The legislature also elected Ntombi Mekgwe as Speaker and re-elected Uhuru Moiloa as Deputy Speaker. Nomantu Ralehoko was elected as Chairperson of Committees, with Doreen Senokoanyane as her deputy. [2] In later reshuffles of the presiding offices, Ralehoko became Deputy Speaker, Mike Madlala became Chairperson of Committees, and Mpapa Kanyane became Deputy Chairperson of Committees. [3]

This is a list of members of the fifth legislature as elected in May 2014 [4] [5] but accounting for changes in membership after the election. [3] In addition to changes after the legislature was constituted, several individuals were elected to seats in May 2014 but declined to be sworn in to the legislature. These were Anton Alberts of the FF+ (replaced by Philip van Staden); [6] Dali Mpofu [7] and Omphile Maotwe of the EFF (replaced by Christinah Mabala and Hoffinel Ntobeng); and Eric Xayiya, Nomvula Mokonyane, and Mandla Nkomfe [8] of the ANC (replaced by Thuliswa Nkabinde, Busisiwe Mncube and Mafika Mgcina). He was previously Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education in the Gauteng provincial government between May 2014 and October 2022, with the exception of a two-day stint as MEC for Finance in May 2019. Simultaneously, he was acting MEC for Social Development between November 2019 and June 2020.

Philippus Adriaan van Staden, known as Philip van Staden, is a South African politician from Gauteng. He has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) since 2019. He previously represented the FF+ in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2019. Van Staden was a municipal councillor of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality from 2011 to 2014.

Lebogang Isaac Maile is a South African politician currently serving as Gauteng's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Human Settlements and Infrastructure Development. A member of the African National Congress (ANC), he has served in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since May 2009 and in the Gauteng Executive Council since 2010.

Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko is a South African politician and a member of the African National Congress. She has served as the Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness since October 2022. She was the MEC for Finance and e-Government from May 2019 until October 2022. Nkomo-Ralehoko was elected to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in June 1999.

Madipoane Refiloe Moremadi Mothapo is a South African politician who has served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the African National Congress since 2021. She had previously served as an African National Congress MP from 2014 to 2019.

The Executive Council of Gauteng is the cabinet of the executive branch of the provincial government in the South African province of Gauteng. The Members of the Executive Council (MECs) are appointed from among the members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature by the Premier of Gauteng, an office held since October 2022 by Panyaza Lesufi.

Kgosientso "Sputla" Ramokgopa is a South African politician who is the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity. He was the Mayor of Tshwane from 2010 to 2016. He was also a Member of the Executive Council in the Gauteng provincial government in 2019 and worked in the Presidency of South Africa as head of infrastructure from 2019 to 2023.

Humphrey Mmemezi is a South African politician and civil servant who was a Member of the National Assembly between 2014 and 2019 and served as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Works from 2017. He was formerly a Member of the Executive Council for Local Government and Housing in the Gauteng provincial government from 2010 to 2012. He resigned from the provincial government in July 2012 when he was found guilty of contravening the legislature's code of conduct and ethics, including in using his government credit card for personal expenses.

Mandla Nkomfe is a South African politician who was Member of the Executive Council for Finance in the Gauteng provincial government from 2009 to 2014. From 1999 to 2014, he was a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, serving as the legislature's Chairperson of Committees and then as its Majority Chief Whip. He was also the Deputy Provincial Secretary of the Gauteng branch of his political party, the African National Congress, from 1998 to 2010.

Michael Collen Sedibe is a South African politician who is currently a Member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature and the provincial leader of the legislature's official opposition party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). He joined the EFF in 2013 after he was expelled from the African National Congress and he was first elected to the provincial legislature in the 2014 general election. In September 2022, he was elected to a third term as the EFF's Provincial Chairperson in Mpumalanga.

Jacob Khawe is a South African politician who was the Provincial Secretary of the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng from 2018 to 2022. He was formerly the Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality from 2017 to 2018 and before that he represented the ANC in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

Sizakele Emelda Nkosi-Malobane is a South African politician who is currently serving as the Chairperson of Committees in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 2019. She was formerly Gauteng's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Community Safety from 2014 to 2019, and she has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the provincial legislature since 2009.

Nandi Mayathula-Khoza is a South African politician who was a member of the Gauteng Executive Council from 2009 to 2019, most proximately as Member of the Executive Council for Social Development under Premier David Makhura from 2016 to 2019. She left the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in the 2019 general election and in 2021 was appointed chairperson of the board of South Africa's Central Drug Authority.

Dikgang "Uhuru" Moiloa is a South African politician who was Gauteng's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Human Settlements from March 2018 to May 2019. He represented the African National Congress in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 1999 to 2019 and was formerly the Deputy Speaker in the legislature from 2014 to 2018.

Mxolisi Eric Xayiya is a South African politician who served as Gauteng's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development from 2013 to 2014 and as Mayor of Boksburg from 1995 to 2000. He is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).

Leswafo Joshua Matlou is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2019. He was formerly the Mayor of Mopani District Municipality from 2009 until 2014, when the ANC asked him to resign. He also served as the chairperson of the ANC's influential Mopani branch from 2009 to 2013 and before that was the Provincial Chairperson of the ANC Youth League in Limpopo.

Joe Mpisi is a South African politician and former trade unionist who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 2014. He has served as the Provincial Chairperson of the Gauteng branch of the South African Communist Party (SACP) since 2012.
