Alice Deejay is a Dutch eurodance-pop project founded and produced by Wessel van Diepen, Dennis van den Driesschen, Sebastiaan Molijn and Eelke Kalberg. They are best known for their 1998 single "Better Off Alone", which was a worldwide success. They went on a hiatus in November 2002 and reformed in 2014 under the name Alice DJ with a new vocalist and two new dancers, following the original vocalist Judith Anna Pronk's retirement from singing.
Madison Avenue was an Australian electronic music duo consisting of writer-producer Andy Van Dorsselaer and singer-lyricist Cheyne Coates. Madison Avenue is best known for the song "Don't Call Me Baby", which peaked at number two on the ARIA Singles Chart in 1999 and number one in New Zealand and the United Kingdom in 2000. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2000 they won Single of the Year, Highest Selling Single and Breakthrough Artist - Single for "Don't Call Me Baby as well as Best Video for Mark Hartley's direction of "Who the Hell Are You".
"Rock DJ" is a song by English singer and songwriter Robbie Williams, featured on his third studio album, Sing When You're Winning (2000). The song was released in July 2000 as the lead single from the album. It samples the strings from Barry White's song "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" and also contains a sample of "Can I Kick It?" by A Tribe Called Quest and has a quote from "La Di Da Di" by Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh. It reached number one in Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom as well as the top 10 in Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland.
"Regret" is a song by British alternative rock band New Order. It was released in April 1993 as the lead single from their album of the same year, Republic. Stephen Hague is credited as both the producer and as a co-writer. It was the band's first single released through London Records following the collapse of Factory Records.
"Discothèque" is a song by Irish rock band U2. It is the opening track on their 1997 album, Pop, and was released as its lead single on 3 February 1997. The song exhibits influences from electronic dance music, characteristic of the band's musical direction in the 1990s. The music video, directed by Stéphane Sednaoui, was set inside of a mirrorball and featured the band members dressed as members of the disco group the Village People.
"Get the Party Started" is a song by American recording artist Pink, released as the first single from her second album, titled Missundaztood (2001). It became an international hit and reached the top ten in many countries, peaking at number one in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Romania, Spain, and Wallonia. The song was Pink's biggest-selling song at that time. The track was released on October 9, 2001, to positive reviews. After the release of the single, it was confirmed that Pink would be releasing Missundaztood.
"Let's Dance" is a song recorded by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, released as the title track of his 1983 album Let's Dance. Written by Bowie and produced by Nile Rodgers of the band Chic, it was released as the lead single from the album in March 1983 and went on to become one of his biggest-selling tracks. It was recorded in late 1982 at the Power Station in Manhattan and was the first song recorded for the album. The end of the song features a guitar solo by then-rising blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan.
"Livin' la Vida Loca" is a song performed by Ricky Martin. It was released on March 23, 1999, from Martin's self-titled debut English-language album. The song was composed by Desmond Child and Draco Rosa. La vida loca is Spanish for "the crazy life".
"Milkshake" is a song by American singer Kelis and the lead single from her third studio album Tasty (2003). It was originally offered to Britney Spears for her fourth studio album In the Zone, but was rejected and given to Kelis instead. The song was released in the United States on August 27, 2003, by Star Trak and Arista Records, and internationally on November 24, 2003. It was written and produced by The Neptunes, a duo that had made the majority of Kelis' songs in the past. According to the singer, "milkshake" in the song is used as a metaphor for "something that makes women special." The song is noted for its euphemistic chorus and low beat R&B sound.
"Don't Call Me Baby" is a song by Australian house duo Madison Avenue, taken from their only album, The Polyester Embassy. The song is the band's biggest hit, reaching number one in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. In the duo's home country, the song peaked at number two for six non-consecutive weeks and achieved triple-platinum status. The song features a bassline sample from "Ma Quale Idea" by Italo disco artist Pino D'Angiò, which in turn is based on "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" by McFadden & Whitehead.
"Lady " is the debut single by French house duo Modjo, written and performed by vocalist Yann Destagnol and producer Romain Tranchart. It was released on June 25, 2000 as the lead single from the duo's self-titled debut studio album. It became a major worldwide success, topping at least 10 music charts, including the national charts of Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. It also topped the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart in January 2001.
"Can't Fight the Moonlight" is a song written by Diane Warren and recorded by singer LeAnn Rimes. It is the theme song of the film Coyote Ugly. Released as a single on August 22, 2000, the song reached the top 10 in 19 European countries, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, topping the charts in 12 of these territories; it became Australia's best-selling single of 2001. In the United States, a different mix of the song peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2002.
"Turn Off the Light" is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado, taken from her debut studio album, Whoa, Nelly! (2000). Written by Furtado, and produced by Gerald Eaton, Brian West, and Furtado, the song was released as the album's second single on August 14, 2001, reaching number one in New Zealand, Portugal and Romania, as well peaking within the top 10 in several other countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
"Who the Hell Are You" is a song by Australian house music band Madison Avenue, released as a single from their only studio album, The Polyester Embassy, in 2000. The song was a hit in the band's native Australia, debuting and peaking at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart for two weeks in June 2000 and winning the 2000 ARIA Music Award for Best Video. Later in the year, the song reached number 10 in the United Kingdom, number 32 in New Zealand, and number 41 in Ireland. In March 2001, it topped the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart for a week.
"17 Again" is a song by British pop duo Eurythmics from their eighth studio album, Peace (1999). It was released as the album's second single on 10 January 2000.
"Maniac 2000" is a song produced by Simon Fitzpatrick and Tim Hannigan featuring vocals performed by Mark McCabe and Shelley Bukspan. It is a medley of Michael Sembello's 1983 song "Maniac" and a rap written mainly by Dublin's Al Gibbs and Mark McCabe, over the largely instrumental Sound Crowd club version of Irish rave act 4-Rhythm's cover of "Maniac", dating back to 1995, which was an Irish top 30 hit for Red Records.
"Hey! Baby" is a song written by Margaret Cobb and Bruce Channel, and recorded by Channel in 1961, first released on LeCam Records, a local Fort Worth, Texas label. After it hit, it was released on Smash Records for national distribution. He co-produced the song with Major Bill Smith and released it on Mercury Records' Smash label. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, starting the week ending March 10, 1962.
"Now You're Gone" is a song performed by Swedish dance musician Basshunter in cooperation with DJ Mental Theo's Bazzheadz. The single uses the same music as "Boten Anna", Basshunter's major European hit in 2006, but its lyrics, performed in English by Sebastian Westwood, are completely different.
"Everybody's Free " is a song by Zambian-born Zimbabwean singer Rozalla. It was released in September 1991 as the second single from her album, Everybody's Free. It had been a staple in the clubs in Ibiza and Mallorca that summer, where hordes of recovering ravers were delighted to find “that tune about being free to feel good and stuff” was available to buy back home. The song peaked at number-one on the Hot Dance Club Play chart in the US. In Europe, "Everybody's Free" reached number 2 in Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain. It was also a Top 10 hit in Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. On the Eurochart Hot 100, the single reached number 6. And in Zimbabwe, it peaked at number 4. Today, the song is widely regarded as one of the biggest dance anthems of the 1990s and it has been remixed and re-released several times. Rozalla performed the song at the start of The X Factor's companion show, The Xtra Factor, on 21 October 2013.
"Adelante" is a song by German electronic production duo Sash! featuring Peter Faulhammer and Rodriguez. Taken from Trilenium, the third studio album of Sash!, it became a huge hit, reaching number one in Romania and Scotland, number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, number 3 in Belgium and Denmark, number 4 in Australia and number 7 in Norway and Sweden. In Australia the song was certified gold for shipments of over 35,000 copies, and in Sweden it went platinum for shipments exceeding 30,000 copies.
