Live in Northampton, MA is a live album by ProjeKct Two, one of the four experimental sub-groups of the band King Crimson known as 'ProjeKcts', which were active from 1997 to 1999 as a way of generating new material for the next Crimson album. This performance, featuring largely improvised music, was recorded at Pearl Street Club, Northampton, Massachusetts, USA on July 1, 1998 and was released through the King Crimson Collector's Club in 2001. [1] [2] It includes many ideas, in embryonic form, which would appear on the next two King Crimson studio albums: The ConstruKction of Light and The Power to Believe . [1] [3]
In his book In the Court of King Crimson, music writer Sid Smith observed that ProjeKct Two's sole studio album, Space Groove , recorded the previous year, "merely hinted at the energy the trio was capable of summoning onstage." [3]
The album includes liner notes by the band's Warr guitar player, Trey Gunn. [4]
