The flag of Texas is the official flag of the U.S. state of Texas. It is well known for its prominent single white star which gives the flag its commonly-used name: "Lone Star Flag". This lone star, in turn, gives rise to the state's nickname: "The Lone Star State." The flag, flown at homes and businesses statewide, is highly popular among Texans and is treated with a great degree of reverence and esteem within Texas.
Vanderpool is a small unincorporated community in Bandera County in the U.S. state of Texas, in the Texas Hill Country, which is part of the Edwards Plateau. It lies 30 miles (48 km) west of Bandera. Hunting, ranching and tourism are chief contributors to the regional economy. Vanderpool had a population of 22 in 1990. It is considered part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kyle Erickson Mackey is an American Football coach and former American football quarterback who played for the New York Jets, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League. He was also an Arena Football League player, who played quarterback for the Albany Firebirds and the Fort Worth Cavalry. He played college football at Texas A&M University–Commerce from 1980–1983 where he was an All-American and led the Lions to the 1983 Lone Star Conference Championship. His father was Dee Mackey, a former tight end for the New York Jets.
The Lone Star Flight Museum, located in Houston, Texas, is an aerospace museum that displays more than 24 historically significant aircraft, and many artifacts related to the history of flight. The museum's collection is rare because most of the aircraft are flyable. Located at Ellington Airport, the museum is housed on about 100,000 ft2 of property, including its own airport ramp. The museum, formerly located in Galveston, moved to Houston to avoid a repeat of the devastation suffered during Hurricane Ike.
Lone Star College System (LSCS) is a public community college system serving the northern portions of the Greater Houston, Texas, area. With "more than 83,000 credit students each semester, and a total enrollment of 95,000 students," Lone Star College System is the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area, and the fastest-growing community college system in the United States. The headquarters of the Lone Star College System are located in The Woodlands and in unincorporated Montgomery County, Texas. In 2010 the district was the largest higher education institution in Greater Houston in terms of student enrollment. The system's 2017-2018 operating budget was $373,733,091.
Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon is a casual dining restaurant chain, serving steak, seafood, salad, and similar food items. Lone Star opened its first restaurant in 1989 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In March 1992, Lone Star became a public company with eight restaurants opened. By the end of 1995, there were 182 restaurants in operation. Lone Star ended the 1990s with 265 Lone Star restaurants. In August 2006, Lone Star became private.
The Texas and Northern Railway is an eight-mile (13 km) railroad connecting Lone Star, Texas, to the former Louisiana and Arkansas Railway at Cason between Daingerfield and Hughes Springs. A number of branches have been removed over the years as mining of ore is no longer done. The blast furnace was shut down in the 1980s as well as the ore smelter. Only the electric blast furnace and the pipe rolling mill are still in operation along with warehouse facilities. Operations have been cut back, and since Lone Star was purchased by U.S. Steel, the railroad is managed under that company's railroad division, Transtar, Inc. Traffic consists of outbound pipe, and inbound scrap steel and alloy steel ingots. For years the railroad bought secondhand ALCO diesel locomotives and heavily modified them for their and the steel mill railroad operations.
The Lone Star was an Amtrak passenger train serving Chicago, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Fort Worth, Houston and intermediate points. The train was renamed from the Texas Chief, which the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway had introduced in 1948. Amtrak discontinued the Lone Star in 1979.
Lone Star Soccer Alliance was a soccer league that existed from 1987 to 1992. While the majority of the teams came from Texas, some also came from Oklahoma and Kansas.

The Lone Star League was the name of three American minor professional baseball leagues located in the state of Texas during the 20th century. The leagues operated from 1927–1929, 1947–1948 and 1977.
The Lone Star Brewery, built in 1884, was the first large mechanized brewery in Texas. Adolphus Busch, of Anheuser-Busch, founded it along with a group of San Antonio businessmen. The castle-like building now houses the San Antonio Museum of Art. Lone Star beer was the company's main brand. It was marketed as "The National Beer of Texas." The Lone Star name is now owned by Pabst Brewing Company. Production of Lone Star is currently contracted out to Miller Brewing Company in Fort Worth. The Lone Star name is used in the Philippines under license to Asia Brewery for a brand of light beer.
The State Farm Lone Star Showdown was the traditional rivalry for all varsity men's and women's athletics competitions between the Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at Austin. The name comes from Lone Star State, which is the nickname of the state of Texas. The "Lone Star Showdown" moniker was trademarked in 1996.

The Tarleton State Texans and TexAnns are the athletic teams that represent Tarleton State University of Stephenville, Texas in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. Before Tarleton State became a four-year institution in 1961, they were known as the "Plowboys". The Texans and TexAnns compete as members of the Lone Star Conference for all 12 varsity sports. Tarleton State re-joined the Lone Star Conference in 1995 after having previously participated from 1968 to 1975. They were a founding member of the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association (TIAA) in 1976 and remained in that league until 1990. From 1991 to 1994 Tarleton played as an Independent.
