The Longley Covered Bridge, also known as the Harnois Covered Bridge, [2] is a wooden covered bridge that crosses the Trout River in Montgomery, Vermont on Longley Bridge Road. Built in 1863, this Town lattice truss bridge is the oldest of a group of area bridges built by brothers Sheldon & Savannah Jewett. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. [1] The bridge is closed to traffic, and has been bypassed by an adjacent temporary bridge.
The Longley Covered Bridge is located in a rural area northwest of the village center of Montgomery, on Longley Bridge Road just west of its junction with Vermont Route 118. It crosses the Trout River in an east–west orientation, resting on abutments of stone and concrete. The bridge consists of flanking Town lattice trusses 84.5 feet (25.8 m) long. The bridge is 19.5 feet (5.9 m) wide, with a roadway width of 16 feet (4.9 m) (one lane). The exterior is finished in vertical board siding, which extends around to the interior of the portals. The siding does not extend the full height on the sides, leaving an open strip below the eaves. The bridge deck consists of wooden planking, and reinforcing stringers have been added to its underside. The bridge has a roof of standing seam metal. [3]
The bridge was built in 1863 by the Jewett brothers, who are credited with the construction of all of Montgomery's surviving covered bridges; it is the oldest of their surviving bridges. The brothers operated a sawmill in Montgomery's West Hill area. They prepared the wood for the bridges at their sawmill. The brothers are credited with building seven area surviving covered bridges, distinctive in Vermont as the highest concentration of bridges in the state with a single attributed builder. [3]
A complete restoration of the bridge was conducted in 1992 by Jan Lewandoski. [4] The bridge is currently leaning to one side and the trusses are bowed in the middle. It has been closed and bypassed by a temporary bridge.
The Kingsley Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge carrying East Street across the Mill River in Clarendon, Vermont. Built about 1870, it is the town's only surviving 19th-century covered bridge. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
The Maple Street Covered Bridge, also called the Lower Covered Bridge and the Fairfax Covered Bridge, is a covered bridge that carries Maple Street across Mill Brook off State Route 104 in Fairfax, Vermont. Built in 1865, it is the town's only historic covered bridge, and is a rare two-lane covered bridge in the state. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
The Cedar Swamp Covered Bridge, also known as the Station Bridge and by various other names, was a historic wooden covered bridge spanning Otter Creek between Cornwall and Salisbury, Vermont. The Town lattice truss bridge was built in 1864-1865 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It was destroyed by fire in September 2016.
Quinlan's Covered Bridge, also called the Lower Covered Bridge, and Sherman Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge that crosses Lewis Creek in Charlotte, Vermont on Monkton Road. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It is one of nine 19th-century Burr arch covered bridges in the state.
The Stony Brook Covered Bridge, also called the Moseley Covered Bridge, is a wooden covered bridge that crosses Stony Brook in Northfield, Vermont on Stony Brook Road. Built in 1899, it is one of two surviving 19th-century King post truss bridges in the state. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Fisher Covered Railroad Bridge is a covered bridge in Wolcott, Vermont. Built in 1908, it originally carried the St. Johnsbury and Lamoille County Railroad line over the Lamoille River. Now closed, it was the last covered bridge in Vermont to carry railroad traffic, and is a rare surviving example in the state of a double Town lattice truss. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
The Williamsville Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge, carrying Dover Road over the Rock River in Newfane, Vermont. Probably built in the 1870s, this Town lattice truss bridge is probably the oldest covered bridge in Windham County, and is the only one surviving in the town of Newfane. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Built in 1910, the Town lattice truss was the only surviving covered bridge in Troy from the historic period of covered bridge construction when it burned on February 6, 2021. It also exhibited some distinctive variations in construction from more typical Town lattices. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
