She successfully "crossed over" to pop music and was one of the most influential, successful, and acclaimed vocalists of the 20th century. She died at age 30 in the crash of a private airplane.

Armilda is an unincorporated community located approximately five miles south of the town of Wayne in Wayne County, West Virginia, United States. Armilda was named for the wife of a settler. The one room Armilda Schoolhouse was located there. A Norfolk and Western Railway flag station on the rail line that ran to East Lynn was also once located there. When the East Lynn Lake was under construction in the 1960s, the graves in the immediate area were moved to a large cemetery constructed on the hill overlooking Armilda. The Lynnhaven River is a tidal estuary located in the independent city of Virginia Beach, Virginia, in the United States, and flows into the Chesapeake Bay west of Cape Henry at Lynnhaven Inlet, beyond which is Lynnhaven Roads. It has a small, developed watershed covering 64 square miles (170 km2), terminating at Lynnhaven Bay. It was once famous along the East Coast of the United States for its oysters, which declined through pollution and runoff. It is now being restored by the Lynnhaven River Now restoration project based out of the Brock Environmental Center. A proposed comprehensive project for ecosystem restoration of the Lynnhaven River Basin is currently under consideration by Congress.
East Lynn Lake is a 1,005-acre (4 km2) reservoir on the East Fork Twelvepole Creek in Wayne County, West Virginia. The lake is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, as part of a series of flood control projects for the Ohio River basin.

Charles Edgar Hogg was a lawyer and Democratic politician from West Virginia. He was born on a farm near Point Pleasant, Mason County, Virginia on December 21, 1852. He was elected in 1886 to the 50th United States Congress. He died in Point Pleasant, West Virginia on June 14, 1935. His son was congressman Robert Lynn Hogg.

Diserio is an American politician and a Democratic member of the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 2 since his January 23, 2012 appointment by West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Representative Tim Ennis. Diserio was defeated in his 2014 bid for reelection, but was later elected in 2016.
