Madhavan Nair, commonly known by his stage name Madhu , is an Indian actor, director, producer, and former film studio owner, who works in Malayalam cinema. [1] [2]

Contents

Madhu has so far acted in more than 400 movies including Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil languages. Madhu made his directoral debut in 1970 through the movie Priya , based on the novel ‘Thevadissi’ written by C. Radhakrishnan. Madhu directed eleven more movies including hit films like Sindooracheppu , Manyasree Viswamithran , Neela Kannukal , Akkaldaama , Kamam Krodham Moham , Theekkanal , Dheerasameere Yamuna Theere , Aaraadhana , Oru Yuga Sandhya and Udayam Padinjaru . He was the producer of most of these films. He also produced movies like Kaithappoo , Asthamayam , Shudhikalasham , Prabhatha Sandhya , Vaiki Vanna Vasantham , Archana Teacher , Grihalakshmi, Njan Ekananu , Rathilayam and Mini . He also produced and directed a movie in English Sunrise in the West, which was entirely shot in the United States. [3]

Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai (1900–1979) was a Malayalam dramatist, poet, screen play writer and actor who was well known in the role of Ashaan in Kavyamela. He was born in 1900 in Muthukulam, a small village near Haripad in Alappuzha District, Kerala, India. Known as the Akshara Guru of Malayalam talkie films, he wrote the screenplay and dialogues of Balan, the first Malayalam talkie and Jeevithanauka, the first box office hit in the Malayalam film industry. He is also the author of about 55 dramas and dozens of film stories and screenplays. In 1968, he acted in Viruthan Shanku, the first full-length comedy in Malayalam cinema directed by P. Venu. He acted in around 150 Malayalam films and wrote Tatathaka Parinayam Kathakali. An award named Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai Puraskaram has been instituted by Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai Samraka Samithi in honour of him.

Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair was an Indian poet, playwright, script writer, lyricist, orator, film director and actor, though he is best known as an actor in Malayalam cinema. He is the recipient of Padma Shri from the Government of India, which is one of the highest civilian honours in India. In a career that spanned about 47 years, he acted in over 700 films. He is considered to be the "first superstar of Malayalam cinema". In 1993, he was honoured with the J. C. Daniel Award, Kerala government's highest honour for contributions to Malayalam cinema.

He was a famous comedy artist during the 1960s and 1970s. He acted in many Tamil movies as well. He was a theatre artist turned movie actor. He hailed from Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. He started his career with drama and later moved to Tamil movies. He was married and has two children. The family resides at Vadapalani, Chennai. He died at a private hospital at Vadapalani in 1992.

His popular movies are Navalokam (1951), Baalyasakhi (1954) and Chief Guest (1975). He had acted in dramas on more than 4000 stages. He was the elder brother of Malayalam actor T. K. Balachandran. He was born to Kunjan Pilla and Parukuttiyamma at Thiruvananthapuram.

Vaiki Vanna Vasantham is a 1980 Indian Malayalam film, directed by Balachandra Menon. The film stars Madhu, Srividya, Ambika and Raghuraj in the lead roles. The film has musical score by Shyam.

Kaamam Krodham Moham is a 1975 Indian Malayalam film, directed and produced by Madhu. The film stars Madhu, Jayabharathi, Nanditha Bose, Kallayam Krishnadas and Manavalan Joseph in the lead roles. The film has musical score by Shyam.

Vijayakumari is an Indian stage, television and film actress. She was a stage actress at Kerala People's Arts Club and Kalidasa Kalakendra. She is the winner of the Kerala State award for best stage actress. She received the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award in 1976 and the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Fellowship in 2005. Currently she is the Secretary of Kalidasa Kalakendra.
