Magliano Vetere is a town and comune in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. As of 2011 its population was 739. [2]
The town, anciently named Malleanum or Mallianum, was first mentioned in a document of the 9th century. It was a Norman state (internal subdivision of a baronial circumdary) that included Capizzo, Stio and Gorga.
Heavily damaged in a fire in 1669, Magliano was rebuilt over a nearby hill, site of an ancient Goth castle, with the name of Magliano Nuovo ("New Magliano"). Some years later, the original site was rebuilt with the name of Magliano Vetere ("Old Magliano"). [3] On March 2023, the Mayor Adriano Piano and the founder of Empathism, Menotti Lerro, announced to have signed a protocol agreement to put on the wall of the Paleontological Museum the Cultural Pyramid of Cilento. The "Paoleontological Village" adhered in this way formally to the Empathic Movement. [4] In 2024 Menotti Lerro appointed the Mayor Adriano Piano, together with other politicians, as "Custode della Piramide" (In English: "Guardian of the Pyramid"). [5]
