Magway Airport is an airport in Magway, Myanmar.Analysis of Google Earth imagery confirms it is also the base for several types of fighter aircraft belonging to the Myanmar Air Force. [1]

Two jets from Magway Air Base crashed in adverse weather conditions on 16 October 2018, killing the pilots and a civilian on the ground. [2]

The airport had been an Allied air base during the Second World War (known as Magwe) [3]

The Myanmar Air Force, known until 1989 as the Burmese Air Force, is the aerial branch of Myanmar's armed forces, the Tatmadaw. The primary mission of the Myanmar Air Force (MAF) since its inception has been to provide transport, logistical, and close air support to the Myanmar Army in counter-insurgency operations. It is mainly used in internal conflicts in Myanmar, and, on a smaller scale, in relief missions, especially after the deadly Cyclone Nargis of May 2008.

The airport covers an area of 0.71 acres. In June 2017, the Civil Terminal building was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath. It will be expanded in the following months together with a conveyor belt.

Siege of Abu al-Duhur Airbase

The siege of Abu al-Duhur Airbase was a battle for the Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in the Idlib Governorate during the Syrian civil war. It was captured by rebel and jihadist forces on 9 September 2015. The base had been besieged since September 2012.
