Local elections were held in the Federation of Malaya in 1955.
The Federation of Malaya was a federation of what previously had been British Malaya comprising eleven states that existed from 1 February 1948 until 16 September 1963. The Federation became independent on 31 August 1957, and in 1963 Malaysia was formed when the federation united with the Singapore, North Borneo, and Sarawak Crown Colonies.

Pearl's Hill, briefly Mount Stamford, is a small hill in Singapore. Located in the vicinity of Chinatown, it is one of the few surviving hills in the city area. Pearl's Hill is well known for once being the site of the former multiple notable institutional buildings such as the Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Seaman's hospital and the Pearl's Hill Prison. The Pearl's Hill Prison is located there because of the close proximity to Sepoy Lines as it was thought to provide protection and security for the prison.
David Joseph Murnane (1892–1953) was Singapore's longest serving municipal water engineer, serving from 1925 to 1947.
Tyersall Park is a historical estate in Singapore, bound by Holland Road and Tyersall Avenue, near the Singapore Botanic Gardens. It was private land belonging to the Malaysian state of Johor from 1862. Some portions of it had been acquired by the Government of Singapore in 1990 and in 2009 respectively. The property is restricted from the public and is fenced along Tyersall Avenue.
Istana Tyersall is a demolished historical palace that used to be located on the former Tyersall Park bound by Holland Road and Tyersall Road near the Singapore Botanic Gardens in Singapore. The land it was formerly built on is currently restricted from the public.
Alkaff Gardens was a Japanese-style park once located east of the Bidadari Cemetery from 1930 to 1964, on the present site of Cedar Girls' Secondary School at Bidadari, Singapore. In the 1930s, the park was a popular leisure destination for dating couples and families. It featured as its centrepiece an artificial lake, which was drained in 1964.
The Keppel Hill Reservoir is an abandoned reservoir near the Mount Faber on the southern part of Singapore.
