Taxonomy

This species was described as "Ascuta magna" in 1956 by Ray Forster from male and female specimens collected in Fiordland. [1] In 1985, the species was made the type species of Maoriata . [2] The holotype is stored in Canterbury Museum. [1]

Description

The male is recorded at 4.2 mm (0.17 in) in length whereas the female is 4.35 mm (0.171 in). This species has a dark yellowish carapace, pale brown legs and creamy white coloured abdomen with a chevron pattern dorsally. [1]

Distribution

This species is only known from Fiordland, New Zealand. [1] [2]

Conservation status

Under the New Zealand Threat Classification System, this species is listed as "Not Threatened". [3]
