He joined Bharatiya Janata Party in presence of Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma. He is the son of former cabinet minister, Rupam Kurmi. He sparked a controversy in April 2023, asking to demolish Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar to build Hindu temples in their sites.

Rupam Kurmi was an Indian politician from the state of Assam. She was a former Minister for Employment and Craftsmanship in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet, and Member of Assam Legislative Assembly for Mariani. She is the mother of MLA, Rupyoti Kurmi.

Alok Kumar Ghosh was an Indian politician from the state of Assam. He was a former member of Assam Legislative Assembly for Mariani.
