Thowra is one of the 126 assembly constituencies of Assam Legislative Assembly. Thowra forms part of the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency. [1] [2] [3] The main area is located around a tea garden known as Thowra Tea Estate. As such, though it is one of the many tea gardens in Assam, it boasts of having a golf field. However recently, the field lacks maintenance and is a common grazing ground.

Sushanta Borgohain is an Indian politician. He is also a bike rider. Born in Sivasagar, he received primary education in VKV, Digboi and then he passed HS from the Tribeni academy, Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Thowra in the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election as a member of the Indian National Congress. He previously served from 2011 to 2016. In June 2021, he resigned from the Indian National Congress due to internal differences in the party. He joined Bharatiya Janata Party in presence of Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma.
