Matador Content (also known as Matador) is an American production company founded in 2013 by Jay Peterson and Todd Lubin. [1] [2] The company produces feature films, unscripted television, scripted television and digital programming. [3] Some of Matador's television series include the Hulu series Drag Me to Dinner , AMC series Geeking Out, the GSN series Hellevator , the A&E series Epic Ink , Cement Heads , and Country Bucks , the Lifetime series Project Runway: Fashion Startup , the History series Great Minds with Dan Harmon , the Syfy series Cosplay Melee , and the Discovery Channel series The Impossible Row . [4] Matador's scripted programming includes the Emmy Award-winning Netflix original series The Who Was? Show , [5] and Viceland's first scripted series What Would Diplo Do? starring James Van Der Beek. [6] [7]

Matador's feature film credits include the Emmy Award-nominated HBO documentary Banksy Does New York , which premiered at Doc NYC in 2014, the Emmy Award-nominated Hulu two-part documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields , Hurricane of Fun: The Making of Wet Hot a behind-the-scenes look at the 2001 cult indie film Wet Hot American Summer , Give Me Future, which documented Major Lazer's groundbreaking 2016 concert in Havana, Cuba, Wig , the HBO documentary that explores the history of Wigstock, Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry , the 2021 documentary centered around singer-songwriter Billie Eilish, and the upcoming feature Nonnas starring Vince Vaughn. Partnerships and acquisition

In 2014, Matador Content formed a joint venture with Untitled Entertainment, the management company behind Jared Leto, Penélope Cruz, and Naomi Watts. [22]

In 2017, Matador Content signed a multi-year production and development deal with Little Creatures, the production company founded by R. J. Cutler and Jane Cha. [23] Later that year, Matador inked a multi-project deal with Bold Soul Studios to develop scripted content. [24]

In 2018, Matador Content was acquired by Boat Rocker Media, a Toronto-based global entertainment company that creates, produces, and distributes premium content and brands for all platforms. [25]

Tom Donahue is an American film director and producer. His latest documentaries include This Changes Everything, which he directed and produced, about systemic gender bias and discrimination against women in Hollywood and entertainment, and HBO's Bleed Out, which he produced with Ilan Arboleda under the banner of their independent production studio, CreativeChaos vmg. The Los Angeles Press Club awarded Bleed Out with the film Best Documentary and runner-up for Best Medical/Health Reporting at its annual National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards and SoCal Journalism Awards in July 2019. Both films premiered in the fall of 2018. Donahue has also received much critical acclaim for directing HBO's Casting By, which was nominated for an Emmy, and Thank You for Your Service, which was released theatrically by Gathr Films in 2016. The show is based on an idea by Stephen Merchant and John Krasinski, in which celebrities battle each other with lip sync performances. The idea was introduced as a recurring segment on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and later The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, before being developed into a separate show.

<i>RuPauls Drag Race All Stars</i> American reality television series

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars is an American reality competition spin off edition of the original RuPaul's Drag Race, which is produced by World of Wonder, for Logo TV and later VH1. The show premiered on October 22, 2012, on Logo TV, before relocating to VH1. However, it was announced on February 20, 2020, on the show's official Twitter account that the fifth season would premiere on June 5, 2020, on Showtime. Following the cast announcement on May 8, 2020, producers announced that the show would remain airing on VH1 instead of Showtime due to the COVID-19 pandemic which caused "various scheduling and programming adjustments". On February 24, 2021, Paramount+ announced via Twitter that the streaming service would be the new home to the series for the sixth season.

<i>Sharp Objects</i> (miniseries) 2018 psychological thriller television miniseries

Sharp Objects is a 2018 American psychological thriller television miniseries based on Gillian Flynn's 2006 debut novel of the same name that premiered on July 8, 2018, on HBO. The series was created by Marti Noxon, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, and stars Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Taylor John Smith, Madison Davenport, Miguel Sandoval, Will Chase, Jackson Hurst, Sophia Lillis, Lulu Wilson, and Elizabeth Perkins. It follows Camille Preaker, an emotionally troubled reporter who returns to her hometown to cover the murders of two young girls.
