This was the ninth direct spin-off series of another series, Project Runway , which airs on the same network. On Fashion Startup, aspiring fashion and beauty entrepreneurs were given the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of investors. It was created by Eli Holzman and was hosted by Heidi Klum from 2004 to 2017. It has a varied airing history, with Bravo originating the first five seasons, followed by Lifetime for eleven more. The show has had over 30 international adaptations.

The production of this season started in September 2008 and finished the pre-finale filming on October 17, 2008.
