M.G.R. Bus Stand, also known as Mattuthavani Bus Terminus, is a mofussil bus terminus in Mattuthavani, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. This is the second largest bus terminus in Tamil Nadu next only to Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R Bus Terminus, Chennai. [2]

History

In 2003, increased traffic led the Madurai municipal corporation to construct a new mofussil bus terminus that would complement the existing Pazhanganatham and Anna bus stations. After completion of the Madurai Ring road project, the Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Terminus (MIBT) was constructed at a cost of 100 million (US$1.4 million), spread over an area of 18 acres (7.3  ha ). [3] On 31 October 2017, It has been renamed by Government of Tamil Nadu as M.G.R Bus Stand to honor the AIADMK founder and the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. G. Ramachandran. [4]

Located on the outskirts of Madurai, the terminus has 8 platforms with 12 bays for every platform. [5] The terminus is serviced by TNSTC, SETC, Kerala State Road Transport Corporation and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. [6] [7] [8]

Omni Bus services

Due to heavy traffic of private omnibuses in Madurai, the Municipal corporation constructed the Integrated Mofussil Omnibus Terminus for private omnibuses in 2014. [9] [10] It was opened by then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on 12 February 2014. The new omnibus terminus spread over 14.5 acres was constructed at a cost of 97 million (US$1.4 million). [11]

Facilities

The bus station has an information center and ticket booking counters for TNSTC, SETC, KSRTC. Other facilities include, a police outpost, rest room for the crew, dispensary health unit, vending stalls, hotels, eateries and ATM. [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] Parking and prepaid taxi, Rental cars, Auto Rickshaws are available. [10] [17] [18]

Viluppuram Bus Station

Viluppuram Bus Station, popularly known as Villupuram New Bus Stand, is one of the bus terminus of Viluppuram, other being the Viluppuram Old Bus Stand which is primarily used for intra-city buses. The bus station is located 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) away from the town's major railhead Viluppuram Junction. Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation services both mofussil and town buses to the station. Tiruvannamalai Central Bus Station, commonly known as Tiruvannamalai New Bus Stand, is one of the bus termini of Tiruvannamalai. Sister stations include Manalurpet road station and nine other arterial festive time bus stations, which are primarily used for intra-city buses. The bus station is located 0.5 kilometres (0.31 mi) away from Tiruvannamalai railway station. In terms of size, it is one of the largest functioning bus termini in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Shri Tiruvannamalai Arunachaleswarar – Abithagujalaambal shrine is 2 km (1.2 mi) away.

Tiruvannamalai is predominantly connected by road to other major cities in the state including Chennai, Bengaluru, Vellore, Arani, Trichy, Tiruppur, Salem, Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Shimoga and Kanchipuram. Ukkadam Bus Terminus

Ukkadam Bus Terminus, popularly known as Ukkadam Bus Stand, is one of the bus terminus of Coimbatore City.It was opened in 1991 to ease congestion in the central bus stand at Gandhipuram.The bus stand was planned to accommodate town buses and buses to Pollachi and nearby places and Palakad.

Mysuru Road Bus Station

Mysuru Road Bus Station (MRBS), is one of the four major bus stations that serve as mofussil bus station hubs for the city of Bengaluru, India. It is located on Mysuru road. The other three major bus stations in Bengaluru are Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS), Shantinagara Bus Station (SBS) and Basaveshwara Bus Station (BBS). It is the second busiest mofussil bus station in Bengaluru only after Kempegowda Bus Station. It started functioning in 2005.

The Coimbatore Integrated Bus Terminus, commonly known as the CIBT, is a proposed integrated bus terminus in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, to serve both intercity and intracity buses. The bus terminus is under construction.
