Maybreak, also known as Spider-Girl: The End For Now, is a graphic novel written by Tom DeFalco, drawn by Ron Frenz and Pat Olliffe, and published by Marvel Comics 2 as the fifth and final volume of the American comic book series The Amazing Spider-Girl , a relaunch of Spider-Girl , following Mayday Parker / Spider-Girl, the daughter of Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson, as she faces her life having been stolen by the mysterious "Brand New May" (her clone, later renamed April Parker at the storyline's end), her father having been kidnapped by Fury, the Goblin Queen, to be possessed by the spirit of Norman Osborn as the Goblin God, and Anya Corazon / Araña / Spider-Girl also having stolen Mayday's body via a body-swap to use against her crush Black Tarantula. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] Additionally, the backup story The Rescue! follows Kaine Parker rescuing Mayday from Osborn as a child, leaving the other May (April) behind, while the backup stories Li'l Benjy the Spectacular Spider-Baby follows the adventures of Mayday's younger brother Benjy in daycare.

Part One, Maybreak!, was released October 8, 2008 (containing the backup stories Far-Out Taste!, The Rescue!, and First Day Drama!); Part Two, The Replacement!, was released November 12, 2008 (containing the backup story Christmas Crisis!); Part Three, Who's Been Sleeping In My Head?, was released December 10, 2008 (containing the backup story Flight Slight!); Part Four, Grim, Be My Goblin!, was released January 14, 2009 (containing the backup story Cool Cake!); Part Five, The End Of Mays, was released February 11, 2009; and Part Six, Never Say... Die!, was released March 18, 2009. Preceded by and directly continuing from the cliffhanger ending of Brand New May , and intended as the final storyline of Spider-Girl (the series having been cancelled then relaunched as The Spectacular Spider-Girl following fan backlash), [9] it is followed by the story arc Who Killed Gwen Reilly? . Brand New May / April Parker / Spider-Girl made her cinematic debut in the 2023 animated feature film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse , depicted as a member of Miguel O'Hara's Spider-Society. [27]

Premise

The series (the storyline continuing from the cliffhanger ending of Brand New May ) follows Mayday Parker / Spider-Girl and the Brand New May, sworn to follow in their father Peter's web-tracks, neither certain which is the clone and which is the original, as they deal with Peter's kidnapping at the hands of Fury the Goblin Queen and possession by the spirit of Norman Osborn, while Mayday also faces being body-swapped with Anya Corazon / Araña, the Spider-Girl before her, who uses her body to romance Black Tarantula. [28] [29] [30] Additionally, a backup story explores Kaine Parker rescuing May from Osborn as an infant, and the backup storyline follows Mayday's younger brother Benjy's adventures in daycare.
