Mecynothrips is a genus of thrips in the family Phlaeothripidae, ^{[1] [2]} first described by Richard Siddoway Bagnall in 1908. ^{[1] [3]} The type species is Mecynothrips wallacei Bagnall, 1908. ^[1]

Two of the Australian species are found only in rainforests in northern Queensland (Mecynothrips acanthus, and Mecynothrips wallacei). ^[4] but the third Australian species, M.hardyi lives on the dead leaves of Acacia harpophylla in arid parts of southern Queensland. ^[4]
