Mecynothrips is a genus of thrips in the family Phlaeothripidae, [1] [2] first described by Richard Siddoway Bagnall in 1908. [1] [3] The type species is Mecynothrips wallacei Bagnall, 1908. [1]
Two of the Australian species are found only in rainforests in northern Queensland (Mecynothrips acanthus, and Mecynothrips wallacei). [4] but the third Australian species, M.hardyi lives on the dead leaves of Acacia harpophylla in arid parts of southern Queensland. [4]
