The Media of Turkmenistan is one of the most tightly controlled in the world. The press is heavily controlled by the government, which funds nearly all newspapers. Criticism of the president is absolutely forbidden. State licensing policy effectively eliminates all outlets not reflecting official views. To avoid reprisal, domestic and foreign journalists engage in self-censorship.
The only domestic news agency is the State News Agency of Turkmenistan; the Anadolu Agency of Turkey maintains an office in Ashgabat, and TRT has a representative in Ashgabat. Broadcasting is under the full control of the "Turkmenistan" Television Broadcasting Center, which operates seven national television channels. Little recent information on radio stations is available. [1]
Reporters Without Borders' 2019 Press Freedom Index ranked Turkmenistan 180th out of 180 countries surveyed, below North Korea and Eritrea. [2] It has consistently ranked at or near the bottom of most measures of press freedom since the breakup of the Soviet Union.
There are 22 newspapers (2 private-owned) and 14 magazines (any private-owned) operating in Turkmenistan. The newspapers are not different from each other [ clarification needed ]. They are very expensive, with the most expensive newspaper costing $0.50. 1 year subscription is equal to 1 month minimum salary!!! [3] [ obsolete source ] Additionally, some online newspapers have been founded and Russian magazines and Uzbek newspapers are sold in some buffets (kiosk)[ example needed ].
In Turkmenistan, is popular satellite TV from Russia and Turkey. People are subscribe Cable TV and IPTV, which available for connection for a monthly fee of 10 manat per month [7] .
Turkmenistan broadcasts 7 public television channels (6 of them on the territory of the whole country, and 1 only in Ashgabat). All of them are broadcast in the Turkmen language (with the exception of Turkmenistan news channel, which broadcasts in 7 languages). By the content and quality of programs, they do not differ from each other. These sources of information are an ideological mouthpiece of the ruling regime in the country. Any opinion or idea that differs from the President of Turkmenistan cannot be broadcast (except if the criticism is made by the president himself). They also present informative and entertaining programs and movies produced nationally, sports events with the participation of Turkmen sportsmen. Sometimes Altyn Asyr broadcasts popular movies in Turkmen dublage in the evenings. Turkmenistan Sport regularly broadcasts Formula 1 [8] , football matches of Serie A, La Liga [9] , Bundesliga and another sports thanks to an agreement with an Irish company Setanta Sports [10] . Any television broadcast 24 hour. Only state companies and institutions advertising to Turkmen televisions.
The state-owned enterprise Turkmen Telekom operates cable TV activities in the country. The service is not a brand.
There are at least four radio stations in Turkmenistan:
TR1 broadcasts on Longwave, Mediumwave OIRT FM and CCIR FM, TR2 & TR3 broadcast on MW and OIRT & CCIR FM, and TR4 broadcasts on CCIR FM. All four stations also broadcast on DAB+ in Ashgabat. [17] [18] There is no local or regional radio stations in the country.
Turkmenistan has a state-controlled press and monitored communication systems. Turkmenistan's telecommunications services are considered to be the least developed of all the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. Overall, the telecom market in this predominantly rural country is relatively small but has been trying boldly to expand in recent years. The state-owned Turkmen Telecom has been the primary provider of public telephone, email and internet services, and through a subsidiary has been operating a GSM mobile network in competition with a private mobile operator, BCTI.

The Ministry for National Security or MNB is the secret police agency for the government of Turkmenistan. It is composed largely of the remnants of KGB organs left over after the collapse of the Soviet Union; its functions remain largely the same as well. The MNB and the national police force are under the direction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Gurbanguly Mälikgulyýewiç Berdimuhamedow is a Turkmen politician who has been serving as the President of Turkmenistan since February 2007. Berdimuhamedow, a dentist by profession, served in the government under President Saparmurat Niyazov as Minister of Health beginning in 1997 and as Vice-President beginning in 2001. He became Acting President following Niyazov's death on 21 December 2006 and subsequently won the February 2007 presidential election. He faced no meaningful opposition in the vote and won by an overwhelming margin (89.23%). In the February 2012 presidential election, he was re-elected with 97% of the vote. In the February 2017 presidential election, he was re-elected to a third term with 97.69% of the votes.

Altyn Asyr is the state owned mobile operator in Turkmenistan. The company uses the TM CELL brand. In September 2013, it was the leader in the market with more than 3.5 million subscribers. MTS Turkmenistan, its only competitor, had 1.89 million subscribers.
MTS Turkmenistan is a mobile phone operator in Turkmenistan. It is fully owned by Russia's MTS . As of 2013, it had 1.89 million subscribers. Its rival Altyn Asyr had 3.5 million subscribers. It was officially closed sometime in late 2017, leaving Altyn Asyr the only major mobile network operator in the country.

In accordance with the law, citizens of all countries require a visa to visit Turkmenistan, unless they have special passports or are from certain parts of Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan. To obtain a tourist visa for Turkmenistan, all foreign nationals must supply an invitation letter issued by a travel agency licensed in Turkmenistan.

The headquarters is located in Ashgabat. The channel doesn't air the Watan Habarlary newcast, unlike the other Turkmen channels.
Turkmenfilm is the largest and oldest film studio in Turkmenistan. It was established in 1926.

The Joint Turkmen-Russian Secondary School is a secondary international school in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan. The school is operated by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. Iwas founded in 2002.
The Armed Forces of Turkmenistan currently funds 2 high ranking educational institutions: The Military Academy of Turkmenistan and the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan. Aside from those two schools, there are several military schools around the country, specializing in the training of personnel of a branches of service. In the early 1990s when the armed forces were rapidly being developed, many officers were trained in the Russian Federation's Ministry of Defense, while at least 300 officers were sent to schools in Turkey.On 3 October 1992, the Turkmen State University created the first Turkmen educational department.
