Michael Challen

Michael Boyd Challen (born 27 May 1932) is a retired Australian Anglican bishop, active in the second half of the 20th century. [1]

Challen was born in 1932 and graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1955; and entered Ridley College, Melbourne to train for the priesthood. He was ordained deacon in 1957 and priest in 1958. After a curacy in Essendon he was Director of the Melbourne Diocesan Centre from 1963 to 1969. Moving to Perth he became a missionary in the Outback and in 1976 became Archdeacon of the Country. The following year he became Assistant Bishop of Perth, serving until 1991. [2] He was then Executive Director of the Brotherhood of St Laurence until 1999. [3]

The Anglican Diocese of Perth is one of the 23 dioceses of the Anglican Church of Australia. The constitution of the Diocese of Perth was passed and adopted in 1872 at the first synod held in Western Australia. In 1914, the Province of Western Australia was created and the diocesan bishop of Perth became ex officio metropolitan bishop of the new province and therefore also an archbishop.

The Australian PGA Championship is a golf tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia. It is the home tournament of the Australian PGA. Since 2000 it has been held in the South East Queensland region. The tournament was part of the OneAsia Tour from 2009 to 2014, and from 2015 to 2019 it was co-sanctioned with the European Tour.

Royal tours of Australia

Royal tours of Australia by Australia's royal family have been taking place since 1867. Since then, there have been over fifty visits by a member of the Royal Family, though only six of those came before 1954. Elizabeth II is the only reigning monarch of Australia to have set foot on Australian soil; she first did so on 3 February 1954, when she was 27 years old. During her sixteen journeys the Queen has visited every Australian state and the two major territories.

Embassy of Finland, Canberra

The Embassy of Finland to the Commonwealth of Australia is Finland's diplomatic mission in Canberra, Australia. The mission is also accredited to New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. As it is the only Finnish Embassy in the Southern Pacific region (Oceania) in practice the Embassy also represents Finland in its relations with other Pacific island states in the region.

Foreign relations exist between Australia and Zimbabwe. Both countries have full embassy level diplomatic relations. Australia currently maintains an embassy in Harare, and Zimbabwe maintains an embassy in Canberra.

The Australian Amateur is the national amateur golf championship of Australia. It has been played annually since 1894, except for the war years, and is organised by Golf Australia. Having traditionally been a match play event, from 2021 it has been a 72-hole stroke play event, having last been played as a stroke play event in 1907.

Australia–Finland relations Bilateral relations

Foreign relations exist between the Australia and Finland. Diplomatic relations were established on 31 May 1949. Australia is represented in Finland through its embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, and through an honorary consulate in Helsinki. Finland has had an embassy in Canberra since 1978, alongside honorary consulate generals in Melbourne and Perth, honorary consulates in Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Hobart, and Sydney, and an honorary vice-consulate in Cairns.

The Coolum Classic was a golf tournament held in Australia between 1990 and 1999. The tournament was held at the Hyatt Regency Coolum Resort in Yaroomba, Queensland. Schweppes became the title sponsor from 1994.

The Australian Match Play Championship was a golf tournament held in Australia in 1986 and 1992 at Kingston Heath Golf Club, Melbourne. In 1986, the event was contested by 16 players over two days. In 1987, it was played over three days. The field was increased to 24 with eight players receiving a bye to the second round. The final was over 36 holes. In 1989, the field increased to 32 with play over four days. There was one 18-hole round on the first two days, two rounds on the third day and a 36-hole final on the final day. Each year there was also a third-place playoff. Prize money was A$60,000 in 1986, A$100,000 in 1987 and 1988, A$150,000 in 1989 and A$200,000 from 1990 to 1992.

The Johnnie Walker Australian Classic was a golf tournament held in Australia from 1988 to 1992. It was first played as the Bicentennial Classic to celebrate the Australian Bicentenary. From 1989 it was sponsored by United Distillers, using their Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky brand, and officially titled as the Johnnie Walker Australian Classic, and then the Johnnie Walker Classic from 1991.

Mel Dalgleish is an Australian basketball player who played in the National Basketball League (NBL) for the Frankston Bears and the Canberra Cannons. At international level, he competed in the men's tournament at the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Nation was an Australian fortnightly periodical, published from 1958 to 1972, when it was merged with the Sunday Review to form the Nation Review.
