Mike Petersen (born August 23,1963) is an American politician who serves in the Utah House of Representatives from the 2nd district. Petersen beat his predecessor,Val Potter,in a Republican primary,where he cited recent tax legislation as the need for change. [1]
Mike Petersen graduated from Brigham Young University,receiving his general psychology BS in 1988 and his counseling psychology MEd in 1990. He subsequently studied at Utah State University,earning his instructional design and learning sciences PhD in 2012. [2] He owns an education and training development company,LetterPress Software. [3]

Mark Edward Petersen was an American news editor and religious leader. He was born in Salt Lake City,Utah. He served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1944 until his death. He became managing editor of the church-owned Deseret News in 1935 and then editor in 1941. He filled the vacancy in the Quorum caused by the excommunication of Richard R. Lyman.
Christopher Scott Petersen is an American former college football coach. He was the head coach for eight seasons at Boise State University;Petersen guided the Broncos to two BCS bowl wins in the 2007 and 2010 Fiesta Bowls. He is the first two-time winner of the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award,which he won in 2006 and 2009. Petersen also won the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award in 2010. At the University of Washington,Petersen led the Huskies to the College Football Playoff in 2016,but fell to Alabama in the Peach Bowl. Petersen announced his resignation on December 2,2019,effective after the team's bowl game.

A Democrat,he served in the Virginia House of Delegates 2002–06,was elected to the Virginia State Senate in November 2007,and was reelected in 2011.
