Mindy Hall is a makeup artist who has worked on films such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010). She also worked on Star Trek (2009), where she was involved in the redesign work on the Romulan race. For her work on that film, she won an Academy Award for Best Makeup.

Career

Hall decided to pursue a career in Hollywood makeup at the age of 17. She attended San Diego State University, but she dropped out and instead joined the apprenticeship programme for makeup at the San Francisco Opera. Following her completion of the course, she worked with several regional opera companies to do makeup as well as hairstyling and wig construction. [1]

Mindy is co-author with Gretchen Davis of The Makeup Artist Handbook published by Focal Press. [1] She worked on a number of films, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , [2] P.S. I Love You and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps . [1] As part of her work on 2009's Star Trek , she was involved in the redesign of the Romulan race seen in the film. [3] She was the department head of makeup on the film, where she led a team of over forty makeup artists as well as Joel Harlow and Barney Burman who designed the aliens seen in the movie. [4]

Awards

The make-up team working on Star Trek won an Oscar at the 82nd Academy Awards. [5] It was the trio's first nomination and was the first Oscar to have been awarded to any film in the franchise. [6] [7] They repeated their success at the 36th Saturn Awards, even though the event was dominated by the success of James Cameron's Avatar . [8] In 2011, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for outstanding makeup, mini-series or movies as the head of the team that worked on the HBO television series Cinema Verite . [1]

Frederick Beauregard Phillips, also known as Fred Philipps, was a Hollywood make-up artist. After his early MGM Studios work under Jack Dawn and William J. Tuttle, he did a pioneering stint at the Star Trek TV series, and created the formula for Spock's ears. In 1980 Phillips was nominated for a Saturn Award for best makeup on the film Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Doug Drexler

Doug Drexler is a visual effects artist, designer, sculptor, illustrator, and a makeup artist who has collaborated with such talents as Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, James Caan, Meryl Streep, and Warren Beatty. He began his career in the entertainment industry working for makeup artist Dick Smith on such films as The Hunger and Starman. He has also contributed to Three Men and a Little Lady, The Cotton Club, FX, Manhunter and Dick Tracy. Dick Tracy earned Drexler an Oscar, as well as The British Academy Award and the Saturn Award for his special makeup effects on characters such as Big Boy Caprice and Mumbles. Two Emmy nominations in the same field followed for three years working on Star Trek: The Next Generation, where he performed such tasks as aging Captain Picard for "The Inner Light". His final make-up job for the series was the Mark Twain makeup worn by Jerry Hardin in the two part episode "Times Arrow"

Barney Burman is an American makeup artist and character actor. He was part of the team that won an Academy Award in 2009 for Best Make-up, on the film Star Trek.

Pablo Helman is an Argentine visual effects supervisor. He was nominated for three Academy Awards for his work on the films Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), War of the Worlds (2005) and The Irishman (2019).

Richard Alonzo is a make-up artist. Known for his work on critically acclaimed films, The Sixth Sense (1999), A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001), Iron Man (2008), Avatar (2009) and Star Trek Beyond (2016) for which he received a nomination for Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at 89th Academy Awards with Joel Harlow.
