Mongolia is a landlocked country in East Asia and Central Asia. Its area is roughly equivalent with the historical territory of Outer Mongolia, and that term is sometimes used to refer to the current state. The Mongolian national bandy team is controlled by the Bandy Federation of Mongolia. The team took part in its first Bandy World Championship in 2006. They won the 1st match against Estonia, but lost all subsequent games including the match for the 4th place in Group B against the Netherlands. Mongolia thus was classified fifth in the B Group championship, ahead of only Estonia.

Mongolia competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics, held in Beijing, China, from August 8 to August 24, 2008. 29 athletes represented the country and competed in seven events. The Beijing Olympics has been Mongolia's most successful games ever, winning two gold and two silver medals, exceeding the 1980 Moscow Olympics where the nation won two silver and two bronze medals. When the 87 nations that won medals at the Beijing Olympics are ranked by medals per population, Mongolia ranks 16th, with one medal for every 749,000 people.

The Mongolia national football team represents Mongolia in international football under the control of the Mongolian Football Federation (MFF). Founded in 1959, the federation was inactive between 1961 and 1997 and the men's national team did not feature in any international fixtures during that time. The federation was reorganised in 1997 and joined the AFC the same year. In 1998 the federation became a full member of FIFA, the international governing body for the sport. The MFF joined the EAFF as one of eight founding members in May 2002. Because of the harsh climate and a lack of suitable venues, the team has hosted few home matches in the past. However, in 2002 the MFF, with assistance from FIFA, began developing facilities in the country, including the creation of the 5,000-seat MFF Football Centre, which will allow the team to play more matches in Mongolia. About Mongolia's relatively low number of matches played, former national team player and coach Zorigtyn Battulga said, "Lack of games is a problem. No one will come to Mongolia in December and for us to fly to other countries is very expensive so it’s hard to arrange official matches."

Ulambayar Byambajav, known professionally as Byamba, previously Daishōchi Kenta, was a Mongolian sumo wrestler and a two-time winner of the Sumo World Championships, in 2006 and 2007. He was 6'1" tall, weighing 350 lb. He entered over 100 matches winning all gold medals, in Japan, Mongolia, Thailand, US, Italy, Germany, and elsewhere. He featured as a model for the Subaru car company. He died "after a protracted illness" in a Los Angeles hospital in February 2020.

Somalia national bandy team represents Somalia in the Bandy World Championship. It is controlled by the Somali National Bandy Association, which is a member of the Federation of International Bandy. Since the nation made its debut in 1964, Mongolian athletes had appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, because of its partial support to the Soviet boycott.

Asashōryū Akinori Mongolian former sumo wrestler

Asashōryū Akinori is a Mongolian former sumo wrestler (rikishi). He was the 68th yokozuna in the history of the sport in Japan and became the first Mongolian to reach sumo's highest rank in January 2003. He was one of the most successful yokozuna ever. In 2005, he became the first wrestler to win all six official tournaments (honbasho) in a single year. Over his entire career, he won 25 top division tournament championships, placing him fourth on the all-time list.

Khaltmaagiin Battulga Mongolian President, member of Democratic party

Khaltmaagiin Battulga is a Mongolian politician and Sambo wrestler who has served as the President of Mongolia since 10 July 2017. He served as Member of the State Great Khural from 2004 to 2016 and Minister of Roads, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development from 2008 to 2012. Prior to his career in politics, Battulga was a Sambo wrestling champion. He was the Democratic Party's candidate in the 2017 presidential election, and was elected President with 50.6% in the run-off, the first ever run-off election in modern Mongolian history. Mongolians are sharply divided about his role in the 2019 Mongolian constitutional crisis.

2017 World Para Athletics Championships

The 2017 World Para Athletics Championships were a Paralympic track and field meet organized by the World Para Athletics subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee, held at London Stadium in London from 14 to 23 July 2017. It was the 8th edition of the event, formerly known as the IPC Athletics World Championship prior to 2017, and featured 213 medal events.

Mongolia is expected to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games have been postponed to a date not later than summer 2021, because of the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. Since the nation's debut in 1964, Mongolian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, because of its support of the Soviet boycott.
